BIO:
Richard Lawrence a.k.a Scratch Cat was born in Kingston Ontario Canada on July 15th 1979. While growing up at the age of 12 years, he met a friend who could beat box who then showed him the basics. As time went on, Scratch Cat poured every bit of himself into perfecting this skill, and with years of dedication and practice finally acquired the talent many come to know as The Art Of Human Beat Boxing a.k.a. vocal percussion. Now at the age of 28, Scratch Cat has become one of Canada’s top beat boxer’s alongside other’s such as Poizonus, Spitz, Human Record, Scott Box, The Kernel, and Sick Sound Syndrome all formally known as the T Dot All Stars. The name Scratch Cat derived from Richard’s fascination for wild cats but mainly for his skill in vocal scratching thus the name of Scratch Cat was created. However, Scratch Cat has also been labeled as the Beat Box Wizard, performing unimaginable tactics such as singing and beat boxing simultaneously, and his own unique style in imitating turntables and various instruments, something many have to see for themselves. He has also developed a unique talent to replicate certain songs and T.V. show themes. Scratch Cat is also capable of performing over two hundred different sound effects. For the past five years Scratch Cat has been active in music production as well as vocal emceeing. Starting his own company" Myndzi (Minds Eye) Music Productions Toronto" in 2004, Scratch Cat also composes instrumentals for himself and other artists. In the year of 2002 Scratch Cat was finally acquired by Urban Music Canada as an artist under management, where he has been featured on a variety of projects such as Importfest Sky Dome 2002 and the Adidas 3 on 3 tournaments at Dundas Square also in 2002. Over the years Scratch Cat has learned to perfect his craft by devotion to the art form and practice in various elements of beat boxing to name a few, sound effects, scratches, and drum patterns. Now with new management at his side Scratch Cat promises to deliver performances unlike any the world has ever seen. With the help of other’s Scratch Cat would like resurrect the lost art by inspiring young individuals to develop interest in this unique ability and to form unity with all beat box artists all over the globe. Scratch Cat currently teaches various youth in the community hoping to gain interest in the art. By teaching the basics and the history of Beat Box, Scratch Cat hopes to inspire and give youth the knowledge and skill to develop their own style. During the years, Scratch Cat has been associated with a variety of artist some being, Dan e o, Gold Spade, Mind Bender Supreme, Symbolik Music Crew, Travis Blackman, White Lotus, North Star, Stolen Owners, Sick Sound Syndrome and most recently The Rhyming Chef. He has also been featured on the Much Music, CBC, and most recently Breakfast Television. Scratch Cat is currently working on his first project entitled SCRATCH FU. It is a kung fu based beat box album. containing some solo tracks, as well as artist’s laying vocals over beats. SCRATCH FU will also feature some of Toronto’s best beat box artists. It will contain no samples, keyboards or drum machines. Scratch Cat hope’s that this album will re-introduce everyone to the lost element of hip hop. The element of Human beat Box. A few words of advice to aspiring artist’s.”Always keep God in your heart and he will guide you on your pathway to success, Be humble, turn those negatives to positives and stay true to yourself.”
