Originally from Dallas, Sarah Sebestyen grew up in Kentucky and moved to
Manhattan when she was sixteen. By the age of eighteen, she was performing cover tunes at
Nell's and by twenty one, Jazz Standards at Cleopatra's Needle. After 9-11 she left New
York to regroup island style in Hawai'i where she learned the basics of the ukulele. Three
years later she moved back to the mainland for some west coast living in Southern California.
There she began her song writing career. Sarah now lives, writes, and plays locally in
Nashville TN. The experiences of her travels, struggles, and accomplishments can be heard
in a multitude of styles, ranging from jazz to blues to country and rock. Her voice is sultry
and sincere--rich in tone and depth. Inspired by the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Ike and Tina,
Diana Ross, Bonnie Raitt, and Janis Joplin she developed a lyrical and melodic style that is
uniquely hers. Her work has been described as "inspirational and empowering," the voice of
strong woman. Sarah has received a great response from the online community: rising to
number 1 on the country charts at reverbnation.com and sparking the attention of none other
than Ludacris from his brand new website wemix.com, where he posted a "video shout out to
Sarah Sebestyen."
The songs "Cheater," "Bad Man," "Break Your Heart," and "Tell Me" are written with Micahel McGhee and
recorded with Sarah's long time friend and guitarist Al Street, an official United States Jazz
Ambassador who has played with grammy winner Bob Beldon, Lee Fields, and Sharon
Jones. He has been featured on the American Gangster soundtrack and played festivals
world-wide. Glen Forrest of EG sound recorded this demo in two six hour sessions at the
West Beth in lower Manhattan in February of 2008.
Recorded in Nashville and co-written with Michael McGhee, "My Friend Matt" is the true story of Matthew Bradford a
Marine she met the night before his deployment to Iraq. Loosing both legs and his vision in
an I.E.D. explosion, Matthew came home only a few months later. Inspired by his story of
survival, Sarah wrote "My Friend Matt" to raise awareness and money to help support Matt's
rehabilitaion and recovery. The song is for sale on Itunes and Snocap, and all proceeds will
be sent directly to Matt. XM Sattelite radio is scheduled to spin his song on the Overdrive
Top Ten Countdown as the "dynamic discovery" on the Overdrive Radio Network.
