Sleepy Little Town

When I was still young, so long ago
I lived in a place that always moved slow.
A small friendly town with five hundred souls
All headed for heaven – well most, I suppose

When I finished school, I moved far away
In search of excitement and places to play
I found a good job, worked hard every day
But home was a place that seemed so far away.

(chorus)
A Sleepy Little Town
A town I called my own
A sleepy little part of my soul
When the road I travel down
Turns and gets too dark
I just embrace the best part of my heart.
My Sleepy Little Town

They shut down the mill, let everyone go
And shipped all the jobs to old Mexico
The pumps have gone dark, the gas doesn’t flow
The houses for sale there used to be homes

(bridge)
They’d roll up the sidewalks come five o’clock
But sidewalks are something my town hasn’t got

I went back today and found no surprise
The sky is so blue it still hurts my eyes
The kids have all gone, they’ve left her behind
When a little town falls, tell me, who hears the cries

(chorus)
A Sleepy Little Town
A town I call my home
A sleepy little part of my soul
When the road I travel down
Turns and gets too dark
I just embrace the best part of my heart.
My Sleepy Little Town
