The Syracuse University Brazilian Ensemble is a non-auditioned ensemble opened to all SU students. It is taught by Dr. Elisa and Josh Dekaney and offered every semester.
The purpose of this ensemble is to help students develop an appreciation and an understanding of several styles of Brazilian music such as Samba (from carnival in Rio de Janeiro), Samba-Reggae (from Salvador, Bahia), Forró (from Brazil’s northeast), Bossa-Nova, MPB (Brazilian Popular Music), and folk music.
