Self Promotion tips for musicians - Social Net etiquette

Social Networking Self Promotion tip ► No 1:
Do NOT put links or vids on other musicians walls. WHY? Because you want FANS , not musicians fanning musicians.
[ How's that working for you????]

No 2: Because it is RUDE to not say hello, at the very least, when sharing your tunepack or video...

?► Would you barge into someones house, run into their kitchen , throw a flyer on their table, and then run out without saying anything? ...I think NOT.

Try this quiz, even i didn't get them all right. http://www.albion.com/netiquette/netiquiz.html

Here is some more information on marketing yourself appropriately :
Basic rules http://www.flinders.edu.au/isd/policies-procedures-and-guidelines/acceptable-use-of-ict/net-etiquette-guidelines.cfm
http://www.simplehelp.net/2006/08/14/how-to-be-polite-while-youre-online-practicing-good-netiquette/

Marketing oneself
http://www.ignitesocialmedia.com/social-media-tools/top-social-media-marketing-tools-for-musicians/
http://jameschatman.wordpress.com/2011/01/10/music-success-in-nine-weeks-step-4-social-media/#more-470

http://jinxy93.glogster.com/netiquette/

Written by Haych Storm
Disclaimer : This is the opinion held by the writer, soley.

So you want to be an Independent Musician?

Some basic advice - Help us to help you.

POD
Point of Difference.
What sets you apart from the reast of the world = millions of other indie musician's /artists???
Yes thats right, millions of others you are competing with??
Sitting in your lounge in a pair of stubbie shorts and a can of beer in front of the low quality video recorder will not get you noticed by industry professionals, or FANS!
Think about a persona & a theme you would ideally like to be and portray. Then stick with it. Get family to take a picture or two of you, or again, collaborate.
Getting an image from the web and then adding your name to it, does nothing to make you stand out.
Be realistic when your making your POD.
If you are a country singer then look at as many country singers as you can, and see what they all do the same, then CHANGE it for your POD.
This go's for all genre's.
If you make yourself look futuristic in your pictures and profiles, then why would you make a video in a scruffy tshirt and cowboy boots??

*Be consistant & stick to a theme.

Singing V's Songwriter.
There is a big difference.
Have you had ANY voice training?? Or do you think you were born "gifted" as a singer. Dont kid yourself. YOU know if you can sing or not, and pretending or convincing oneself that you can reach arcopella heights, does not do you any favours.
I had voice traing a hundred years ago, but i never claim to be a "Singer". I 'know i cannot sing, i think we all do?
Hearing a wild riff and great drum solo is fab, but if the artist cannot sing then this is something an artist must consider when making a profile and theme and "ideology for ones persona".
If your a gifted guitar player then shout it from the rooftops, same if your electronic composer, but don't pretend to be a "Demis Roussos" when your not.

READ MORE ...........
http://www.indiemusicglobal.com/profiles/blogs/so-you-want-to-be-an
