The Phonix introduces an additional lead singer!

So, as if it wasn't crazy enough to attempt breaking a 10-piece band into an already saturated music scene, the Phonix is trudging forward, and in doing so, has scooped up an additional singer to add to the band's already emotionally intense performance.

It is with great pleasure that the Phonix welcomes David Ward to the front line. David, a Vancouver native, has been dutifully performing on the Vancouver scene for the larger part of the last decade. His funk and soul inspired compositions have been baffling audiences all over Western Canada and the rest of the nation after a 25 date cross Canada tour in 2008. David is a fantastic solo artist as well as an accomplished bandleader. To date, he has released two highly acclaimed albums and has a third in progress.

David spent all of 2009 living in Toronto and playing regularly in venues such as C'est What and My Dog. He has since returned to his hometown of Vancouver, and boy are we glad!

Please help us give David a ward welcome to our group! Come see him in action at our next show!

What are people saying about David?

David Ward delivers a delicious musical gumbo fusing together folk, jazz, blues, theatre, and pure imaginative wit. Seemingly unencumbered by the usual conventions, there’s a surprise around every corner. His music has been labeled a “rare, bold foray into melodic experimentation”, both “stunning and poetic”. “Think Zappa meets James Brown meets Tom Waits meets Stan Getz meets Marvin Gaye. Prepare to be dazzled, amazed, moved and amused.” John P. McLaughlin of The Province.

“A perfect example of how musicians are not just there to play music, but to entertain as well.” Ron Cheng – ronatron.net independent reviews
