Mother's Day

One of the things that our group's been known for, is our ballads...

Magic's production first of all, still blows me away after all these years, and I'm in the group!

I thought about Mother's Day coming up and it made me think about the song: "I Remembered" off of our Listen to This album. It's a song written soley by Magic, for woman, in honor of the trials and tribulations that they go through and how strong they are for their famiy.

The other song that comes to mind is "Touch Me" off of our newest album, On Purpose. Now this song, I've heard for years... We used to play it in our live show. I wasn't a keyboard player in the group at the time, I just sang background. One of our keyboard players Patti Nix cried everytime we played the song. So when Magic decided to put it on this album I was very happy because I always loved the song. Well, the day he finished the vocals, I happened to walk in the studio as he was listening back to what he had recorded. I sat down and listened to the song and cried so hard that Magic got a little concerned. I mean I cried LOUD! The song moved me to no end!

So if you have a loved woman or mother and can't find the words to express what you feel, play these songs for them...

Happy Mother's Day!

How We Write Songs

Each album we do takes on a life of its own. We'll start a song, complete it and then think, nah, this song should have different lyrics or it should be faster, etc. The song Change off of our latest album had a different title and lyrics. It was a great song; Magic wrote the track, Jessi wrote the lyrics. It was during the Presidential Campaign and Pres. Obama was on the rise... Magic thought, we need a song to help support his cause. He told Jessi, "you gotta rewrite the lyrics to Running"... (that was the title of the song at the time) Jessi said, "The whole thing?" "The whole thing"... he said. She said "okay"... Within a few days Jessi had rewritten the song and had us crying! It's our "We Are The World" song! Our goal is to get this song to President Obama because it goes right along with the Changes that he is making for the world.
