David Kirton releases New Music Video 'She's All Island'

David Kirton launches a new fresh Music Video in support of his song She’s All Island, his first single from just released album All Island. The Worldwide Online Premier is being hosted by the popular Reggaeville.com on Friday Feb 7th. This online Reggae zine has over One Million plus YouTube followers and is one of the top European Reggae music discovery and artist information platforms. The video will be released Internationally with Right Recordings. Not to leave out the local audience CBC TV Barbados will host a Television Premiere on Good Morning Barbados on Monday Feb 10. The video can be viewed on Reggaeville.com and all David Kirton social media including Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and Twitter.

David Kirton’s, ‘She’s All Island’ 2020 Music Video features Barbados Super Model Leese Eversley. Filmed in New York & Barbados, Kirton remembers his Island Girl, moments they shared fill his thoughts and dreams as he traverses iconic places during the New York winter.

The team was led by producer Noelle Attaway who is a 2 time Barbados Music Video of the year awardee for Alison Hinds Roll It Gal Music Video and David Kirton’s popular Green Camouflage. Attaway was able to again lean on Pulitzer Prize winner and producer of the Time for Change music video Tom Kruger to access a top shelf film and edit team and work on fleshing out the concept details.

The video is Directed by Noelle Attaway, Lead talent David Kirton, Island Girl portrayed by Barbadian model, Leesa Eversley, Casting Barbados. Photographed by Selwyne ’Get Bizzy’ Browne (Barbados) and Geoffrey Jean-Baptiste (New York). Edited by Lauren Balthrop and Post supervision & color by Peter McCabe. Leese’s makeup by Mandy Cummins.

She’s All Island is produced by Jamaican hit maker Mike Bennett & recorded at Grafton Studios Jamaica ‘She’s All Island’ crosses the bridge between Reggae and Latin rhythms making hips swing on the rim shot. Boundaries expand with mysterious guitars and visual lyrics all wrapped in a sultry piano. Kirton’s composition for the song was influenced by Harry Belafonte's Calypso album on which a few songs were written by Kirton’s late father-in-law, William Attaway. The way Belafonte presented Matilda, described her and brought her to life for International audiences was Kirtons inspiration for the song and video . David Kirton is an award-winning Reggae crossover singer-songwriter from the Caribbean island of Barbados and has been a quiet storm over the past decade, building a solid catalogue of radio friendly guitar driven songs with reggae rhythms. Kirton says “It was Roots Reggae that captured my senses. My progression as an artist came because I was more relaxed, didn’t try to fit into a trendy box, just let my songs flow and represent what I felt inside when I sat down to write them. I feel very comfortable making music my own way, rather than trying to fit in anyone’s boots. I love having the freedom to touch people and find success following my own vision.”

It all started in a beach side wood shack, quickly moving to a well-received Midem Cannes Showcase in 1999. David has since been awarded multiple Barbados Music Awards including Reggae Artist of the Year and toured the US, opening for the likes of Third World, Steel Pulse, Maxi Priest and Joseph Culture Hill.

His trajectory has continued with US and UK tours, multiple festival appearances and various renowned events including Royal Chelsea Flower Show, Toronto Youth Day, Hollywood Bowl Summer Sounds, Reggae on the River, SXSW, Greek Theater Berkeley, Bob Marley Day Long Beach, The Virgin Atlantic Music Festival and Reggae on the Boardwalk in Barbados. Woah! I’m going to Barbados… those words alone make us smile. The song titled ‘Barbados’ is irresistible, a bouncy, tropical pop remake of 1975 hit song ‘Barbados’ that takes listeners on a lively ride filled with modern Caribbean rhythms, infectious lyrics, warm harmonies and hints of reggae.
Smooth vocals delivered by Barbados Reggae Star David Kirton reek of sunsets and rum punch, a surprising humorous briefing from laid back pilot Captain Tobias Willcock is guranteed to make this song a new, favorite addition to any playlist.

‘Barbados’ is produced by Rob Wells, a Canadian who has become a regular visitor to Barbados, with vocal production by Mikie Bennett. Their creative approach to production made them a perfect fit to deliver the song into the modern playing field while retaining the feeling of nostalgia that Caribbean music embraces .

Originally, ‘Barbados’ was released by the UK group Typically Tropical in 1975. The two writers of the song are Jeffrey Calvert & Geraint Hughes. The song went to #1 in the UK, Ireland, and South Africa and charted in Australia, Sweden, France, the Netherlands and Germany. In 1991 the Venga Boys, remade the song as ‘Going to Ibiza’. Again the track went to #1 in several countries including the UK. Now, 25 years later the time is right for another release, this time from the island of Barbados.

Barbadian Record Label, CRS Music and Media, the initiator of this remake, commissioned Rob Wells for his modern artistic approach to production and chose David Kirton for his vocal range and his global appeal. Mikie Bennett worked with Kirton on previous albums and is currently involved in his new recording. Rob Wells production resume includes the Backstreet Boys, Selena Gomez, Justin Bieber, Alicia Keys and Natasha Bedingfield. David Kirton carries Barbados with him wherever he travels. “Barbados is where the stories of my music are from, when I share a piece of me, I share a piece of home”. His new single ‘I Won’t Forget’ fills a space held close to our hearts. A space reserved for works of art, poems and songs, Universal values that speak of tradition, love, history and ways of life held dear for generations.

‘I Won’t Forget’ was recorded in Barbados at Canefield Studios, a mere 200 yards from the Newton Slave Burial Grounds adding another element to the emotional connection Kirton has with the song. The song delivers a poignant hopeful tone that embraces steady percussion rhythms, trails of steel pan, guitar tones echoing voices in the ocean and Kirton’s sandy, warm uniquely bajan voice.

Kirton’s inspiration for the song is simple, “It’s important to have a sense of belonging, feel a sense of community. Moving from my little island to the big city of Los Angeles in 2005 , I quickly realized that my roots and memories of home were the driving force behind my ability to remain unique and relevant among the thousands and thousands of working musicians”.

Kirton is currently finishing his (5th) album, recording in Barbados with various producers and Jamaica, with Mikie Bennett. His songwriting progression has been steady and thoughtful, “Over the years, it has become a lot easier to dig deeper and be more personal with my song topics, going beyond safe, allowing myself to be uncomfortable if necessary, just go places where the music takes me”.

‘I Won’t Forget’ is written, produced and performed by David Kirton, Neil Newton; bass and engineer, Stefan Walcott; keyboards, Jermone Waithe, David Kirton and Marley Kirton; guitar, Andre Forde; Steel Pan, Te’ Amir Sweeney; percussion and was mixed by Andrew Denny. David Kirton has earned the title of Barbados’s Reggae Godfather, he is a multiple Barbados Music Award Winner, critically acclaimed songwriter, and touring artist. Anderson Armstrong is celebrated Calypsonian, a multiple finalist in the National Calypso Competitions, founding member of Square One, a Barbadian Band that enjoyed a decade of dominating the radio stations, Carnivals and party playlists throughout the Caribbean.

Kirton’s inspiration for collaborating were simple “It is always an honor to be included in someone else's music project. I've been a long time fan of Andy Armstrong and his ability to deliver hit songs year after year”. Anderson ‘Blood’ Armstrong inspiration; “ I wanted to produce a reggae track, I had not attempted one for a long time, Christmas was around the corner, I was inspired and started creating. i decided to make a Reggae track for the holiday season. It helps that I happen to love Christmas!”

Fate played a hand, they both attended a Barbados Coalition of Service Industries (BCSI) Songwriting Workshop. Armstrong; “He (David Kirton) is one of our (Barbados’) leading reggae artists and if you are going to do reggae, get a top Reggae artist. Plus when I approached him at BCSI he was excited about the project and did not turn the track down”. Kirton; “One listen to the music track, in the middle of the seminar, and I was on board. It's a groovy, fun rhythm”.

Kirton; “ I made a decision to step out of my comfort zone, this is my first Christmas song. It was a refreshing challenge to come up with the concept, lyrics and vocal melodies in a short space of time. Working with Andy was an enjoyable, worthwhile experience”. Armstrong; “I really enjoyed working with David and I would say that most definitely I would want to have another collaboration with him”.

David Kirton shares his childhood memories of Barbados at the world famous Hollywood Bowl for their Annual Summer Sounds Series 2012.
Kirton will be performing selection of songs from his children’s album ‘Island Songs for Children’ during two daily performances from July 9th – July 20th.

Summer Sounds is a six week summer program with daily morning performances for very young audiences. Like an episode of Sesame Street, Summer Sounds is hosted by a regular cast of characters who receive a postcard in the mail which sends them on a 'treasure hunt' to a new neighborhood in Los Angeles, where they discover both the new neighborhood and a world music group. Their hunt leads them to David Kirton where they learn about the traditions and culture of Barbados thru his original music and his experiences.
The series is hosted by Los Angeles Philharmonic, Walt Disney Concert Hall and The Hollywood Bowl.

Island Songs for Children is a high spirited collection of original Barbadian children’s folk songs. The idea for the project began when Kirton was unable to find nursery rhymes, characters and stories that his young children could identify with that displayed their island way of life. “I started to notice that all of my children's books were of foreign origin and history,” he says. “I began trying to relate the child friendly national symbols from our own island to my own children so they could relate to and remember how life was for me in Barbados as a youth. As the collection grew I realized that childhood memories are very powerful. They represented more than just my life but the story of the Caribbean, like reading about Cowboys and Indians, sailors or growing up on a mountain it formed longings and context for life time passions and set character”.
Island Songs for Children was originally funded by Fund Access and is a joint project between CRS Music and Bird’s Eye Music Barbados.

Barbados’s David Kirton packs up his guitar and travels with the changing seasons, this time the acclaimed Modern Roots Reggae singer songwriter finds him self a welcome base on the college circuit.
Recently Kirton formed an alliance with Degy Entertainment, an established New Jersey based College Booking Agency who specializes in pairing performing songwriters with Campuses and Armed Forces bases. After a successful NACA, National Association for Campus Activities, showcase hosted by DEGY and The Barbadian Association of Music Entrepreneurs David Kirton is booked for a fall tour performing a mix of acoustic and band dates. On this tour Kirton will be preforming with a four piece backing band and as an acoustic guitar duo featuring Barbadian musician David Pilgrim, who is based in New Jersey.
Kirton continues to expand his original modern roots reggae sound preparing for the release of his fourth album in 2012. His music creates a vibe and energy that reflects the culture and heritage of his homeland mixed with his modern travelers views and adopted international sounds. Kirton said "My progression in music has been organic. I never follow the trends but, take note. I have been fortunate to learn from some of the best entertainers and producers in my Caribbean community how to transform visions into songs and dreams into a life long musical journey.”.
Today’s music market is fragmented but the cracks allow for artists like Kirton, from obscure regions, to find a way to reach new fans and foster established ones. The college market may still prove to be the music industries strongest taste makers. Kirton’s thoughts on how he stays inspired “To win this fight, I take up my guitar, raise my voice and touch lives".

David Kirton songs set the musical notes for new film ‘Barbados Style’

‘Barbados Style’ is a brand new TV Special produced in superb HD by The Big Picture Company, an initiative of the Barbados based Miller Publishing Company and Athans Communications of Montreal – two companies highly regarded for creating world class products. This dynamic show offers a bird’s eye view of Barbados, a favorite escape for celebrities, sports stars and Knights and Ladies. Opulence and grass roots come together on this tiny island that sits on the border of the Caribbean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. David Kirton was selected to be a major part of the soundtrack, giving voice to the expressive visuals captured by director and editor George Athens.
