Suite 101 Article - Bennystrange SxSW Gig Annonuced

Indie Music© Danny Brown
Feb 22, 2007

Bennystrange SxSW Gig Announced

Posted by Danny Brown

LA Indie Band Bennystrange Win ReverbNation SxSW Contest

Los Angeles-based indie band Bennystrange have won the ReverbNation / SxSW contest and will appear at the influential festival next month.

Genre: Indie / indie rock / indie pop
Sounds like: Elbow, Death Cab For Cutie, Travis
Home: Los Angeles
Bennystrange
The South By Southwest festival (SxSW) has been running for twenty years now. Bringing together the best that new music and media has to offer, it has long been a breeding ground for some of the brightest up-and-coming bands from all genres. Therefore, gaining an appearance slot there has become highly desirable.

ReverbNation, an online new music website that specializes in bringing bands and fans together under different genres, combined this year with SxSW, to run a competition where two lucky bands would be given the chance to win such an appearance at the festival. Voted for by a panel of judges at the ReverbNation site, the winners have just been announced.

Indie band Bennystrange are one of the winners and will play a coveted slot on Friday, March 16th 2007, at the Dirty Dog Bar as part of the SxSW festival being held in Austin, Texas. A five piece unit that combine lush arrangements with sweeping hooks, Bennystrange is beginning to generate a lot of buzz in the indie community. Their impending appearance at SxSW will only further that. I'll be reviewing their debut EP Nowhere Left To Run shortly here on Suite101, as well as running a feature on the band.

Original article can be found at http://indiemusic.suite101.com/blog.cfm/bennystrange_sxsw_gig_announced

CD's, used socks, and a heart-shaped potato.

Hello Bennystrangers,

So I was on ebay the other day looking to buy something I didn't really need and reviewing the comments left by other buyers who also bought this item that they too didn’t really need. Now most of the time when reviewing feedback you can click to see what it is that other people bought but there was one purchase that said “private.” I was intrigued. So I clicked on that buyers profile, dug around on ebay and found that they bought “2 dozen used men’s socks.” No joke. Dirty, yellow, and most with holes in the heels. They sold for $5.00. Right now I know you are thinking the same thing I was thinking, “I am paying way too much for my socks.”

Later that same day I was in the grocery shopping for a good sized potato for dinner and I found one that seemed to have a birth defect. It was two potatoes joined together and it seemed to be fused in the shape of a heart. I thought I could sell it on ebay and make a fortune but then I remembered the guy who sold the socks and I didn't want to be one of THOSE people. So I left the potato for a more daring entrepreneur.

Speaking of being compelled to buy Strange things... we have had several people ask where they can purchase our CD. Well... we do have one that you can order here: http://cdbaby.com/cd/bennystrange2
Buy one for you and a friend.

Thank you so much for all your support and keep an eye out for that million dollar heart-shaped potato.

Stay Strange,
-Josh
www.bennystrange.com
