Hi everyone,
The new JLD CD has been available for a few months now, but we are officially launching it at Perth's new jazz club, The Ellington, on April 8. Come along if you can and check out this amazing new venue.
Also listen out for airplay of the album on ABC Classic FM's Jazztrack and ABC Radio National's 'The Weekend Planet'. Also look out in the Arts pages of the West Australian for an upcoming story about me and the album.

The album is now available online at www.johannesluebbers.com and www.birdland.com.au

For those of you who would prefer more immediate satisfaction you can visit Planet Records or 78 Records in Perth or Basement Discs in Melbourne.

Thank you to those people who have already bought an album, your support is much appreciated. Hope to see you at the launch.

Johannes

CD Update

Hello everyone,
So much for writing on here every week! So a little update...
CD has been mixed and is sounding great (i think). Kieran did a great job on the mix and it sounds very cool. Certainly doesn't sound like your average jazz CD and there are several tracks where the rhythm section sounds totally rock. I love it.
It's currently getting mastered at Sterling Sound in NYC, which will hopefully make it sound even better. Graphic design is also in the works, as are liner notes. Tony Gould has kindly agreed to write them, so i can't wait to hear what he has to say.
So the whole thing should be available for purchase sometime in October. The initial plan was to do a CD launch on October 12, but this is proving difficult as I can't find an appropriate venue that I can afford. Looks like I'll be crawling back to the PJS to see if they can fit us in. Keep your ears open for details on that.
And just a reminder again that you can hear us at the York Jazz & Soul Festival on Sunday October 19. We'll be featuring a number of special guests and will have some new music, so it should be a blast.
A website is in the pipes too, so look out for that. www.johannesluebbers.com will be operational in the next month.
In other news, My Heart Will Go On is still not 100% approved. GRRRR! EMI/FOX has approved their part, but I'm still waiting on Rondor music. Hopefully the sort it out soon. Either way it looks like the EP will be coming out long after the studio album, which feels a bit odd as the Live gig was recorded first. Hopefully is still sounds cool after hearing the studio album!

Catch you at a gig soon.

Johannes

We have some gigs!

So, if you have been itching to catch the Dectet live, now is your chance!

We'll be performing at the York Jazz & Soul Festival this October on Sunday October 19. We're doing one set at 3pm and another at 5.15pm, featuring different music and special guests in each!

The festival runs over the entire weekend and we'll be rubbing shoulders with such jazz luminaries as John Scofield, Joe Lovano, James Morrison and Jamie Oehlers to name just a few - these guys alone will be worth the entry cost! To get a hold of tickets follow the link under the 'shows' tab. Should be a great weekend.

In other news, copyright approval has finally been granted for us to use 'My Heart Will Go On'. It went all the way to James Horner, so maybe we've earned ourselves a new fan? Believe it or not FOX music (representing Mr Horner) only represent 62.5% of the copyright, so I have to chase down the other 37.5% from Rondor Music. Great! Hopefully they don't take as long and we have a Live EP to plug here very soon. Everything else is set in place. The studio album is also being mixed at the moment. Should be rockin' - not your average jazz CD. Then it's off to be mastered, likely at Sterling Sound in NY, but we'll see how the finances go.

In other news I got a hot new logo designed for the CD's and promo stuff. The first one looked liked a dangling dick, so we had another shot and it's much better now. I didn't see it at first, but thankfully I have a lot of dirty minded friends who kindly pointed it out.

I wonder if anyone will read this.

Hope you're well.

Johannes

Recording Update

Hi Everyone,
So the JLD has now finished recording our first studio album and we're now on to mixing and post production, which is very exciting. I think we'll come out of this with something we'll all be proud of.
The EP on the other hand has run into some snags with copyright and it may be a little while before it all gets sorted. I had planned to include a version of 'My Heart Will Go On' on this album, but EMI/FOX have decided to take forever to decide whether or not we can do it. At this stage the recording has actually been sent to James Horner for his approval, so we are at the mercy of his judgement now. If you know him personally put in a good word. At this stage it is even possibly the studio recording will be available before the live EP.
We also had a photo shoot last weekend for the album, got some great shots out of it.
With any luck we will have a launch party organised soon for sometime in September/October. Stay tuned! Hope to see you there. If not you will be able to purchase the CD online, or maybe even in a store near you!

Johannes

Live EP coming soon with Studio Album following!

Hi Everyone!

Just letting you all know we have a 6 track live EP coming out in the next 6 weeks. It has a few eclectic selection on it, showing a number of the groups different sides. It will be selling for a very reasonable yet-to-be-determined low, low price and if you're very important you may even get one for free!

We are also heading into the studio in June to record 7 tunes - 5 originals plus our unique versions of God Only Knows and Paranoid Android, both of which will feature the talents of Jono McNeil. Dates have been booked and I can't wait to show everyone the finished product.

Stay tuned for more information. There are 2 tracks up here at the moment as a sneak peak at the EP, i hope you enjoy them.

Johannes
