Bio
Roy Schneider is a Florida transplant who grew up with lots of dogs in Massachusetts. A former toy designer and syndicated comic strip cartoonist, he is a contemporary songwriter who, with strong roots in folk, delta blues, 60s rock, bluegrass, reggae, gypsy jazz and soul, has defied genre categorization from the get-go.
About
Roy Schneider has hopped, skipped, jumped and jiggled along an interesting and oddly-shaped life path to the award-winning singer/songwriter he is today. His musical interests piqued early, his father having been a career musician and his sister having been courted by the New England Conservatory of Music for her young piano prowess.
When piano lessons didn’t work out so well for Roy at age 6, his poor mother was aghast. “Now my boy will never be a starving musician,” she undoubtedly worried, but things became more promising in that regard when he took a serious interest in the harmonica.
Roy spent two years as a runaway teen with little more than a guitar and a lot of time on his hands, amusing himself accordingly by shaping his own completely unorthodox method of musicianship around a lifelong passion for singing.
In 2004, Roy’s comic strip ‘The Humble Stumble’ was picked up by United Media and appeared in newspapers nationwide including The Chicago Tribune and The Detroit Free Press. Meanwhile, he performed in bars and coffee shops and by 2005 was accepted into his first national songwriter's competition, pulling his interests in a whole new creative direction. “To hell with Hotel California,” he declared privately with no slight to The Eagles, “I’ve gotta say my own bit.” So he set out to say his own bit and hasn’t looked back. He has spent the years since playing music festivals and other venues all over the United States.
Roy Schneider's songs are from the heart and span the gamut from soulful to silly to bluesy and gritty as he persists in bold defiance of categorization. Enter the ever-expanding genre, Contemporary Folk.
Roy lives in Florida and carries over a decade of solid performance experience. His music has been played on public, college and internet radio stations, including syndicated radio show The Grateful Dead Hour with David Gans. He has two full-length CDs and a 5-song EP to his credit, available on iTunes and CDBaby.
