About
RootDownOne is a collective of musicians based in Northern.california.Thier story began in 1997, when Ethan Lewis and Isaac James crossed paths at a music school in Auburn CA, after being inroduced by Music and More director Kay Coder. Isaac later introduced cellist, Yoko Silk, and poet/percussionist Billy Brooke to Ethan, creating a powerful blend of celtic, jazz, spoken word, funk/rock and roots music from, 1998-2005. After taking their music to the recording studio to create their first release, "Traveling the Road", the band later regrouped with long time friend, multi-instrumentalist, Dave Chapman to create the unique sound you hear now! They fuse funk/African rhythms with the melodies of celtic jigs and reels, while also exploring free jazz and spoken word. Power house bass player and multi-talented, Dave Chapman makes you feel like a psychadelic cargo train, cruising through a Detroit, funk brothers summer. While multi-instrumentalist drummer, Isaac James can sometimes remind you of Clyde Stubblefield, freejazz, African trance and acid Afro-Beat blended with Cecil Taylor. All of that put together, with the Alasdair Fraser influenced, Ethan Lewis, and their music is beyond any catigory or genre. RootDownOne, usually plays as a trio, but many guest musicians add to thier live performances and recordings, as well. They can play as a live drum and bass duo, or a 5 piece world funk CO OP!
