Born in Houston Texas, I started playing guitar when I was 12. My first guitar was a 1959 Les Paul Jr. . My mother bought it for me at a garage sale with a fender tweed amp for $50. What a deal!! I started writing and recording when I was 17. Mostly for therapy ( you know chicks and broken hearts ). Well it worked out to be my love. I moved to california for surf and music and built a recording studio close to Disney Land with my freind Shaun Sullivan.
My influeces are Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Browne, Radney Foster, and James Taylor. All from singer / songwriter influences. My biggest influence to start writing songs was Dan Fogelberg. Dan died 12/16/07 of prostate cancer. Without his influence I never would have had the yearning to play, sing or write. It was his concert that I first shared with my son Noel. An experience neither of us will ever forget. If you know Dan's music you know the song "Part of the Plan" and recognize there is a plan for each of us. Cherish every moment and memory and write about all of them.
While working at Guitar Center in California I met a lot of good muscians that I played and colaborated with. Notably was Clay Cook who wrote and played with John Mayer and was selfless enough to help me with my music. Clay also plays with Marshall Tucker Band and Shaun Mullins among others. Thanks Clay!!!!
I moved back to Texas in 2001 and went into a coma and wasn't given good odds to live. The Dr. in the ER told my wife Gina, I wouldn't live through the night and asked her to sign a doner form for my organs. I made it and got back to work .I lost the use of all but two fingers (Django Rhienhardt style ) so I started playing in open tunings. Thanks to my loving wife Gina, my son Noel, My stepson Mark, my family and most of all the grace of God I started pulling through. Getting better all the time.
Well give the songs a listen and I hope you enjoy! Give me some feedback and if you don't play, start. If you do, don't stop.
God Bless, Ron Maxey
