About
Rocky Fretz has had, and continues to have, a very interesting career. The most amazing thing about it, however, is that at the age of 50 Rocky has, only now, begun to 'hit his stride' as it were.
Rocky has performed more than 5,000 times. As many as 4,300 of them were as feature pianist for a large, family music variety show called "The Carolina Opry" in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Rocky was an original cast member of the show, filled the first "Vocal Director" position for five years and co-produced the first record released under the Carolina Opry name. He remained as feature pianist for some 17 years and 4,000+ shows before striking out on his own solo career in September of 2003.
Since leaving the Carolina Opry to pursue his own dream of becoming a successful, touring, concert pianist performing his original music as much as possible and recording his CDs, Rocky has performed his own shows at The Newberry Opera House, Comma, Brookgreen Gardens, scores of churches, The Legends In Concert theater and various other community theaters and concert halls.
Rocky's newest CD is being produced by Will Ackerman, founder of Windham Hill Records, and a Grammy Award winning producer and guitarist.
The original piano music on the new work entitled "The Path Ahead" is 1/2 solo piano and 1/2 with accompaniment. The ensembles include a host of award winning players including Michael Manring, Will Ackerman, David Cullen, Eugene Friesen, Jeff Oster, Patrick O'leary and more!!
The piano music on this CD is New Acoustic Piano Music. Rocky played all the piano tracks without overdubbing extra piano. Even when the song sounds as if it might be two pianos...it was intended to sound that way.
The Path Ahead is scheduled for release in June 2009. Feel free to contact if you would like to be involved with the promotion of the CD or supporting concerts.
