Q: You play so many styles, where or how do you come up with your ideas?
A: I tend to use the 3 chart system I developed for students, and no this isn't a commercial. One of these days I'll write a book on it or something. The first of the three is a progression chart, the second is a key chart and the third is a melody chart. I also tend to listen to suggestions for songs. For my song Shuffle Off To Buffalo I used the melody chart for the main melody early on in the song and then used some suggestions from my students. A couple of them wanted to know how fast I could play. So I incorporated lots of tremelo picking and tremolo sweeping (down up down on each note during a sweep in a downwards direction, up down up on each note swept upwards) after a minute in. For my latest song Ufo's Over London it started out as a joke doing a dance song with no bassline, but it kind of grew on me as it was developing and I added a bunch of glitch effects. It was a blast doing that one. Thanks for your question.
