96 gone but never forgotten - YNWA

"A real rootsy singer/songwriter with an ear for a melancholy tune and some heart-hitting lyrics. The Antidote, the lead track on the Kilmarnock singer’s debut EP, is just him, guitar and a violin and cello but it packs a powerful punch. At it’s heart a break-up song it takes no prisoners with lines like “I’ve got a bottle of pills beside me/that say’s your wrong” and “everything in a bag before me/becomes what’s mine” are lyrics David Gray or Damien Rice would be proud of. Second Tune Lay You Down starts off with a Pink Floyd -style plucked guitar creating an eary mood of impending doom and indeed is another broken break-up tune. She Came In A Dream could be a Noel Gallagher b-side while Endless Lullaby has the sweetness of Nick Drake. Broken is just gorgeous, full of decaying beauty. It sounds like Robbie has wounds but they are making incredible music
