After working for years in health care and writing on the side, Ohio native Rj Cowdery finally found the nerve to choose music as her career - at an age when most folks are thinking about retirement. Rj admits to being a late bloomer, but she’s been making up for lost time and has quickly racked up major songwriting awards (Kerrville New Folk, Mountain Stage NewSong, Wildflower! Arts and Music, and runner up at Rocky Mountain Folks Festival) and fans from across the country with her heartfelt lyrics and tender voice. In This Light, Rj’s new release on the Blue Rock Artists label, is a collection of 11 intimate songs produced by veteran Billy Crockett and recorded at Blue Rock Artist Ranch and Studio in Wimberley, Texas. The CD features special appearances by Pierce Pettis, Kim Richardson, and Jonathan Byrd. Rj’s good friends Beth Wood and Jenny Reynolds will join in for an intimate in-the-round evening of inspiring and uplifting music. Beth performed a jaw-dropping show at Open Ears in June and her many fans will want to be sure to come out again. “The Weather Inside,” Beth’s eighth studio release, is her most mature, complex, emotionally resonant work yet, it is a case study in contrast - a coming-of-age statement record from a veteran artist, embracing strength and tenderness, the polished and the well-worn, the broken and the hopeful heart. “The Weather Inside” delves deep into Beth’s creative reserves and delivers a strong collection of songs and performances to remember. In 2003, Jenny Reynolds moved from Boston to Austin, and was a finalist in the Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk competition. Her most recent release, “Next To You,” combines rockers and ballads, stories and rants, and precisely one hoot. It also boasts appearances by Ian McLagan, Ruthie Foster, and Warren Hood. Doors open and potluck begins at 6:30 PM, and the show starts at 7:30. $15 suggested donation, but no one will be turned away.
