About Reverend DeBruhl was forged in the lowlands of Georgia where the tradition of improvised music runs deep. Description Steeped in the heritage of strong guitar leads, powerful vocals and a pocket rhythm section the boys of Reverend DeBruhl are a rock quartet that produces an ambient southern sound. Rob and J.P. met in Valdosta, Georgia where they played locally as an acoustic duo. The two would eventually recruit Garrett and the boys would form a three-piece rock band. One morning after a couple months of gigging, the band was introduced to guitarist Zane Ally. Zane sat in on the next gig and would eventually become part of the band. Brothers Rob Hibbs(Guitar and Lead Vocals) and Garrett Hibbs (Bass and Vocals) were born into the musical tradition. Their father Henry Hibbs is an accomplished violinist and mandolin player who has played with the Athens Symphony Orchestra and sits in with local Athens bluegrass groups. The brothers grew up experimenting with different styles and tones while writing music together in Watkinsville, Georgia. Rob grew up playing classical style guitar and later picked up the electric guitar. He retains a soulful edge to his vocal style that is inspired by many current and classic blues singer song writers. His guitar inspirations are Trey Anastasio and Warren Haynes with slide guitar inspirations Steve Kimock, and Duane Allman. Garrett grew up developing his own complex bass tunes, which have created a very unique sound for listeners. Victor Wooten has been an inspiration to Garrett’s bass technique. He is known for keeping the audience moving while integrating his own syncopated grooves and walking bass lines. John Paul DeBruhl often called JP is the bands drummer. JP grew up in Saint Simons Island, Georgia where he was a part of close-knit family of musicians. He learned guitar at a young age from his father John Courtlandt DeBruhl and was eventually taught percussion by his mentor Lanny Grammar. JP plays mandolin in his spare time and has a love for bluegrass and jazz. His influences include Bob Moses, Billy Martin, Elvin Jones and Jeff Sipe. Zane Ally is the band’s hidden "man behind the curtain" with a unique spread of influences and sounds. He spent half a secluded decade studying and transcribing jazz greats Charlie Parker, Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery, John Scofield and modern guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkle before venturing out into the Valdosta music scene. In his off time he is a dedicated acoustic finger style guitarist boasting the instrumental fingerpickin' likes of Leo Kottke, Don Ross, and Chet Atkins. The Hibbs brothers would later convince JP to move back to their hometown of Athens, GA and play music fulltime. The good friends and good people that surround Reverend DeBruhl have created a small Georgia family that is reflective of its people and true to its nature. You can find the band hanging out in the Athens countryside, warming up some biscuits and singing the New Blues.
