Dear liberated funk brothers and sisters, I hope you are enjoying the sweltering summer. If you also like your Jazz Funk hot and sweaty come down to see us at the 606 Jazz Club on Friday, 8th of August, feat. Brendan Reilly on vocals. The stellar line up will be: Stefan Redtenbacher - bass, talking, waving hands, etc. Mike Sturgis - drums Eran Kendler - guitar plus Steve Corley - keys Robbie Robson - trumpet Edgar Jones - tenor and Brendan Reilly on vocals For more info and booking go to the club’s website: http://www.606club.co.uk/ From the Club’s website: 9:30PM - This incredible London-based 6-piece is led by Austrian bassist Stefan Redtenbacher who draws his inspiration from jazz, funk and soul. Stefan has established himself as the UK’s groove bass player of choice for many artists, with a list of musicians with whom he has worked including Steve Winwood, Sam Brown, Herb Alpert and Danny Gottlieb. Plus his own recordings feature “jazz/funk” legends Fred Wesley (Parliament, James Brown) and Elliot Randall (Steely Dan). The Funkestra’s name pretty accurately describes the high energy feel of the music as this band performs original funky grooves with an authority and style that is hard to beat. With 7 albums already to their name the band are currently working on a new album, ‘Dr Hypenstein’ which will showcase the raw energy and funk-driven bass riffs with which the band are now synonymous. Their shows, which always include a regular Guest Vocalist, will tonight feature the brilliant Brendan Reilly along with two of the finest horn players on the UK Jazz scene, Robbie Robson (Tony Bennett, Jamie Cullum) on trumpet and the terrific Ed Jones (US3, Incognito) on sax. The band is highly entertaining, with tremendous musicianship applied to some amazing music.
