Ranj Singh Bio
604-418-9746 Self taught guitarist/singer/songwriter Ranj Singh has developed a new genre of music labelled "Indo-Folk". Raised in western Canada, Ranj has added a small taste of his roots from India to his western upbringing and created a fresh new sound. "A Ha, here is a songwriter and a singer who understands who he is and where he sits in the world". Wyckham Porteoussinger/songwriter/playwright/producer.
Ranj Singh's debut solo album titled "Simple Man" has caused quite a stir having been recorded over just 7 days, with a variety of award winning artists (John Macarthur Ellis, John Bottomley, Allen Rodger, etc.) and core members Chris Dufault, and Craig "Burdman" Burdes, and produced by well known west coast artist Wyckham Porteous. Ranj is currently performing at acoustic oriented venues to promote his easy listening album.
In the mid 80's, Ranj started his career performing with many folk-punjabi and hindi artists in the Vancouver area. In the 90's he helped form along with his talented brothers the group "Dal Dil Vog"(aka DDV). This group went on to win numerous awards and performed with artists such as Jan Arden, 5440, Mathew Good, and also performed live on Much Music. DDV's style of bhangara/rock music led to tours throughout North America, and India, as well as 3 videos on Much Music, and 1 on MTV Asia.
With his vast experience in Indian music, combined with his unique "up stroke" guitar melodies, Ranj has once again put together a diverse band featuring Dan Huget on Electric Violin, Tracy Gloeckner, Tabla and Drums, Bojan Bugarinovich on Bass, and original member Chris Dufault on guitar and vocals. These guys have taken the songs to a whole new level.
"The album Simple Man is an answer to a 22 year old dream", says Ranj. To summarize the making of his debut album" Musicians dropped by to watch the sessions and were immediately recruited to join in a wondrous celebration of simplicity and the pure unadulterated joy of making music for the love of it. The results shine through at every turn along this journey of a 'Simple Man'. Bravo Ranj. Take A Bow! Dave Chesney Editor White Rock Sun.com.,
