“When you listen to a lot of music for your entire life then one day decide to write about that music as a critic, everything changes, you become by default...more critical. “The Randy Vera song: “Here Made of Gone,” 2012 finalist for the John Lennon Songwriting Award (Jazz category) is a song about “The Gardner Heist” in Boston, MA. The robbery remains the largest property theft in recorded history. What’s significant about this song is how it positions the Art thief in dialogue with “Aesthetics” itself. It questions the very laws of perception and beauty. The musical framework is full of meanings. Examples here are too many to mention. Some are the “creeping” and “tip towing” Bass lines which represent the thief and his accomplice. The flute and oboe nervously whisper a woodwind conversation. I When I die, I hope St Peter hands me back my Guitar and sends me to the Rover to play the Sunday 5-9 for Billy J, O’Bie & Christie… Easily the best sound system for a solo musician… Cool thing about the Rover is the 1 Dollar Coos Light Drafts and 5 buck burgers that beat Tasty Burger all to hell. Michelle; Kelsey&Amanda (The devil sisters); Ginny, Marissa, and the rest of the beautiful staff are super cool. They only tell me to turn down the volume during my Who set… I also play from 9pm till 1am every Weds. However, if I’m not playing, then one of my friends like Greg Lutrell or Tom Grolo - Two of the best musicians in Boston - will be there crushing it. Rover does Live Music all day and night. Think "National Underground NYC" meets "The Back Fence" on Bleecker Street NYC... Only thing the Rover is spotless clean with better food, cheaper beers and a friendlier staff. No Disrespect to Joey DeGraw at NU NYC, he still rules, but for a working, night club Musician like me, The Rover is the best
