Randolph Matthews Forget the usual tags – ‘singer-songwriter’, ‘folk-soul’, and ‘troubadour’. If you’ve caught him live, either solo or collaborating, you’ll understand Randolph Matthews operates in his own parallel world, well away from traditional mainstream record label marketing formulae. His music is an evolving journey, rooted in purity and unshackled expression, drawing on the greats of yesteryear in soul, Neo African rhythms and conscious words. Sure, you’ll hear echoes of Marvin Gaye, Jon Lucien and Bobby McFerrin, influences in the true sense, allied to an open-minded approach borne from years performing live and collaborating with a wide variety of groundbreaking London and international artists. Rob Hughes Rob Hughes is an experienced London based musician and composer with an extensive list of live performances to his credit including Gloria Gaynor, Heather Small (M-people), All Saints, ABC, Tony Hadley, Anastacia, LuLu, Howard Jones but to name a few.
Our stage time is 8pm - and playing with Randolph Matthews Rhythms of the World (ROTW) is a registered charity (no 1090835), led entirely by volunteers, which aims to unite diverse communities through music and the Arts. The main way we achieve this is to hold an annual festival of music, dance, arts and cuisine from around the world - every July in Hitchin, Hertfordshire. The Rhythms of the World festival, originally organised by the local Oxfam campaigns groups, has evolved into one of the biggest - and best value - world music festivals in the UK with over 31,000 attending in 2011. People come from all sectors of the community and the event features both local talent as well as artists from around the world.
