Seventies riff-rock freaks The Caning have been steadily building their presence and thrilling local rock fans in the last year with their visceral live attack and devilishly crafty compositions. Connecting with other bands with a similar throwback ethos, they have invited Melbourne progressive rockers Rainbird and Ballarat's post-classic mavens The Electric SunKings (exclusive Melbourne appearance) to join them in a showcase titled Classic Rock Renaissance. These trend-defying bands are contemporary proof that rock and roll can reference itself while still moving forward, a stance that is gaining momentum locally and abroad. Switch off that classic hits radio and come and hear it reinvented at Revolver Bandroom on Friday 5th April. $10 entry, doors at 9.
