Jim Hoehn’s Three Chord Barbeque
Show Times: Mon: 8:00pm - Wed: Midnight - Fri: 3:00pm - Sat: 9:00am
Jim Hoehn is a Milwaukee-based journalist, author, sometime songwriter and huge fan of independent music. For two years, he also was the host of the Three-Chord Barbecue show as one of the regular guest DJs on Radio Margaritaville.
Well, after a lengthy hiatus, the Three-Chord Barbecue show is back, courtesy of Radio JimmyDreamz. As in the past, the show will include an eclectic, Americana-flavored smorgasbord of singer-songwriters, unreleased demos, vintage cuts from the vinyl vault and other musical tidbits from the nooks and crannies of the well-stocked closet of independent music.
In addition to new shows for Radio JimmyDreamz, some of the old shows also will be rebroadcast, sort of a “Classic” Three-Chord Barbecue. Because he was never a big fan of the guy who sponsored the softball team as a license to pitch, bat cleanup and vote for himself to the All-Star team, the one thing musical promise that comes with each Three-Chord Barbecue show is that it will not feature any Jim Hoehn songs.
As always, thanks for listening.

Join Captain Philip Carney and the crew of the Scarlet Queen as they sail into adventure on the high seas!
Show Times: Sunday: 8:00pm - Tuesday: 3:00pm - Thursday: 9:00am - Friday: Midnight
Voyage of the Scarlet Queen was a radio adventure on the high seas, airing on Mutual from July 3rd, 1947 to February 14th 1948. Elliott Lewis starred as Philip Carney, master of the 78-foot ketch Scarlet Queen, with Ed Max as first mate Red Gallagher.
The show seems to foreshadow Star Trek in a number of ways. Each episode opens with an entry from the ship’s log: “Log entry, the ketch Scarlet Queen, Philip Carney, master. Position — three degrees, seven minutes north, 104 degrees, two minutes east. Wind, fresh to moderate; sky, fair…” with a similar closing: “Ship secured for the night. Signed, Philip Carney, master.” Arriving at an exotic port of call, the captain and first mate would go ashore and immediately run into trouble with local authorities, agents of rival merchants, or desperate women in need of rescue. After some investigation and at least one good fight they would solve the problem, get back on the ship and sail away, Carney and Gallagher sharing a laugh and a drink at the wheel before the captain’s closing log entry.
Technically the show was among the better radio productions of the time, employing realistic sound effects and sailing terminology, well paced stories and colorfully detailed settings. Most places visited by the Queen are real. Even the map coordinates given by the captain are mostly accurate, following a zigzag course around the South Pacific.
