Quintet Tabor initially began its existence as just another woodwind quintet, performing standard works and working in traditional venues. Soon, however, the members of the group (Lauren “death” Zavlunov, flute, Karisa “big eyes” Werdon, oboe, Donald “the bear” Moy, clarinet, Keith “the reed” Kreindler, bassoon, and Josh “the man” Cheuvront, french horn) came to realize that they were meant for different things. Yes, they continue to explore the older repertoire; but their energy and passion is directed now to new and unexplored territory. As artists-in-residence at the Upper Valley Music Center of New Hampshire, Quintet Tabor has presented over two-dozen concerts in an array of venues—on trains and boats, in art museums, in public parks, schools and concert halls. Their concerts are highly interactive, entertaining and informative.
Quintet Tabor actively commissions new works from young composers and has begun presenting these works to a wide variety of audiences. They recently collaborated with Philadelphia composer Joseph Hallman, performing his piece Tribute as a part of their spring 2007 concert series. They are currently working with several New York composers and plan to present their works in upcoming concerts. Playing new music is just the beginning of Quintet Tabor's ventures. In spring 2008, Quintet Tabor will join theatre director Anna G. Jones in presenting the next phase in her Day Lights the Bone series. Other multi-discipline projects dealing with art, dance, and electronics, are still in the works. We'll keep you posted!
