Label: Bedevil, Bedevil

Bio: The bewitching Pumajaw are one of the Scottish music scene's most exotic animals, Instrumentalist John Wills built a heady soundtrack by looping effects-laden guitar and beats, but all eyes were on the engrossing Pinkie Maclure, who dresses like a glamorous flapper girl and sings like a siren.

Superlative Scottish electronica duo Conquering Animal Sound return to Limbo on Saturday 9th March to mark the launch of their second album, On Floating Bodies (due out in March via revered indie label Chemikal Underground), after Europe lapped up their debut, Kammerspiel, so appreciatively in 2011. Comprising Anneke Kampman and James Scott, both residents of Glasgow, CAS’s brand of pop (and it is pop, make no mistake) is rendered through a kaleidoscope of clicks, tape hiss, synths and a myriad of micro-electronica to produce something that’s bewitching and entirely immersive. “a typically thrilling set of choral electronica, ambient rapture and local resonance... The new songs advance Scott and singer Anneke Kampman’s knack for techno with a warm pulse, an exquisite voice and a big pop heart and the duo seemed more in command of their intricate technical live set-up than ever. Kampman’s arresting, self-manipulated vocals remain impressively measured (her words and elocution are crucial), but here they appeared to lead the songs, where once they interwove” (Nicola Meighan, The Herald) “With Kammerspiel, Conquering Animal Sound have simultaneously managed to capture on record the full depth of their creativity and imagination, as well as the inherent beauty of their sound. It is a wonderful piece of work which deseves to be cherished, and gives us far more than we might reasonably expect from anyone’s debut album” (Drowned In Sound) “a diverse and imaginative piece of work” (The Skinny) http://www.limbolive.co.uk/bands/conquering-animal-sound First support comes from genius Perth experimental/electronica duo Pumajaw, who have been touring the globe for over a decade now and wowed Limbo twice before with their equally avant garde take on pop music, dazzling media critics right across the board, from The Wire and Uncut to Marie Claire. This date follows the release of their new album, Demonmeowmeow, with the duo embarking on a fresh European tour of their own in April. http://www.limbolive.co.uk/bands/pumajaw Edinburgh soloist Plum completes the package, her own take on electronic pop drawing a comparison to Nikki & The Dove and The Knife for her from Scottish new music champion Ally McCrae (BBC Radio 1). Plum released her own fourth album, The Seed, last year. http://www.limbolive.co.uk/bands/plum The Black Spring DJs will be joining the dots before, between and after the bands as usual. Tickets: http://limbo.eventbrite.com/ N.B. £5 (early bird) / £7 (advance) / more on the door! Doors open at 8pm. More links / info: http://www.limbolive.co.uk/

Sat 5th November: Limbo 4th Birthday w/Conquering Animal Sound, Pumajaw, Pet This November, it will be four years since Limbo first launched as a weekly Thursday night 'live music dance party' at the Voodoo Rooms. Things have changed quite a bit since then, not least the Edinburgh and Scottish live music scenes, both of which have changed almost beyond recognition, compared to the way things were almost half a decade ago. There's more brilliant live music happening in Edinburgh right now than ever before, with a similar renaissance taking place across the nation and this fourth anniversary will be as much about celebrating that as the role that Limbo has played in it all. And what an incredible bill to mark the occasion!Break-away Scottish stars CONQUERING ANIMAL SOUND cap a magnificent year for them with this headline appearance, having wowed a packed-out Limbo in support of Meursault back in April. Support comes from equally inspiring Limbo alumni PUMAJAW (originally from London, now based in Perth and international performers in their own right) and PET (recently tipped as ones to watch by the NME). Black Spring DJs provide DJ support, as usual. Don't miss this one!
