Bio
I am a wine drinking, music making, wine making, music loving kind of guy.
About
Proximity Effect's music consists of raw, vulnerable emotion, laced with heavy distorted landscapes that shift like tectonic plates. At its core you will find James Northcross; the voice and instrumentalist for for the band who lives amongst the tones and sounds.
Heavy, melodic guitars accompanied with whispering vocals and damaging drums that discharge in an instant is what came natural and surfaced as a coping mechanism to the ever growing instability of the world.
"...and so there I was downtown San Diego drinking sangria at Pokez on 10th and E. I had this idea for a recording project that would be gratifying for members who lived in different cities. The name Proximity Effect seemed most fitting since the band was displaced all over the southwestern U.S." (Proximity effect in audio refers to a change in the frequency response of a directional microphone as the sound source is brought in close proximity to the microphone. The result of the change is an increase in the bass response of the microphone.)
Proximity Effect feels the necessity to perform in a way that is not only engaging but also memorable. An alluring assault of sound and color.
