“Protobaby - Single/Track Review - Traditions 8/10 The amount of positive press we had been reading about the Limerick quartet got us extremely excited to listen to their new single. ‘Traditions’ is a track that could have been featured on the Editors album ‘The Back Room’ back in 2005 – musically and vocally the band reminisce of the Indie giants. The dark influences in their music really shine out on this single – the eerie sounds of Joy Division and the emotional textures of Interpol creep out from every orifice. The bass and lead guitars are the dominating instruments throughout the duration of the track – the bass production is just perfect and drives the song from start to finish. The stand out section is of course the chorus which features simple lyrics and a catchy melody (the simplicity of the lyrics makes it incredibly hard for you not to start singing along). Q: Fluorescent is a great tune.... can you tell us how it was written and what the inspiration was?

A: I've often wondered how I would fair out if asked to do a soundtrack for a movie, so one day I gave myself a project To write a song for an upcoming movie. The movie that caught my eye at the time was a sequel to one of my favorite childhood movies, "Tron" science fiction has always been my favorite genres along with horror so I could relate to this movie. Most of the protobaby songs are very personal but I'm glad I wrote "fluorescent" with this new approach for me. Colm
