In the winter of 2008, three gifted songwriters met at a gathering place for musicians in Florida, Jensen’s Marina on CaptivaIsland. John and Michele Law were on tour for the winter playing gigs around the state. One night, they invited Nashville-based songwriter and guitarist, Brent Moyer, to sit in on the show. It was instant magic – both to them, and to fans who were present at their first showtogether. From there, like all great things that are “meant to be”, Pretty Tall Cowboy (PTC) began to take shape.
Whether sweating it out in a cabin on CaptivaIsland, or huddled in a studio in Nashville, Michele, John and Brent write songs that reflect the feeling and playfulness that defines PTC. With influences ranging from classic to contemporary rock, bluegrass and country, Pretty Tall Cowboy’s sound is defined by three distinctive lead vocalists and full-on 3 part harmony. Add to that vocal mix, two incredible guitar players and a chick bass player – it’s a sound that is both familiar and cutting edge.
Pretty … Michele Law’s musical career began when she was a young girl singing harmony with her sisters around the house and at family events. For the past 9 years she has shared the stage with her musical partner and husband, John. The duo are known as "The Laws", and have recorded 5 independent CDs of original music, won the Chris Austin Songwriting Contest at MerleFest and have toured non-stop throughout Canada, the United States and Australia. Michele sings with a sweet purity and provides lead and harmony vocals while holding down the bottom end with her signature vintage P-bass.
Tall … Standing 6'6" in his boots, John Law cuts a long shadow but his easy-going nature makes him a fan favorite at festivals and concerts alike. In his early 20's, John honed his craft of live performing by playing music on the street. He later was the band leader of a highly acclaimed Crosby, Stills & Nash cover band with a huge following throughout Ontario, Canada. Then the acoustic music of Doc Watson grabbed him, and he started to write songs with his musical partner and wife, Michele. Blues, bluegrass or country, John is an accomplished musician on acoustic and electric guitar, or mandolin and his sultry vocals soar on lead and harmony vocals.
Cowboy … Raised in the wild-west (or Rocky Mountains) of Wyoming, Brent Moyer was born with a guitar in his hands and a trumpet on his lips. A Berklee College of Music alumni, he’s shared the stage with everyone from Willie Nelson to Donna Summer; played lead guitar for Country Music Legend Lynn Anderson, and was a cast member in the hit Broadway Show, "Ring of Fire", the songs of Johnny Cash.As a solo performer and songwriter, Brent’s songs have been recorded throughout Europe and North America by award-winning artists and his diverse blend of musical styles ranges from Tex-Mex to Country, Cajun to Jazz.
