https://www.facebook.com/events/493776650677802/ Launching off Friday MAY 24th 2013! | 21+ | 11-8AM FORMAT: http://www.format-rec.net/decodechicago.html RESIDENT ADVISOR: http://www.residentadvisor.net/event.aspx?479428 www.format-rec.net www.secretechno.com www.facebook.com/no.ratz.1 INFO: 773-417-9656 THE LINE UP: LUIS FLORES | Droid - Blank Code - Silent Steps | Guadalajara In the more than fifteen years he has been producing electronic music, Luis Flores has not only made a name for himself but has been at the forefront of a movement that made the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, a hot spot for electronic music production and events. At the center of this movement was Nopal Beat Records, a label that created its unique brand of music, reflecting the quintessentially contradictory and dark spirit of Mexican nightlife. As Artistic Director of Nopal Beat, Luis worked with cultural authorities to produce a string of massive, free public events that could bring electronic music to a wider group of people and provided a stage for local producers. In 2006, he began experimenting with an audiovisual project called Kümbia Korrupters, focused on samples from Mexican movies of the fifties and sixties. Towards 2007, the need for a more depurated style led to the launch of Antena Discos by the Nopal Beat team, which gave Luis artistic license to take his music back to his techno roots. In 2009 the release of the Damage EP on Droid Recordings, established Flores as an international artist with its immediate success, making the charts of artists such as Speedy J, The Detroit Grand Pubbahs and Chris Liebing’s Best 10 of 2009. In 2010, Dietrich Schoenemann’s Hidden Agenda released Pain + Prosthetics, an EP which among other things includes a collaboration with Canadian: Vitamins 4 U. Flores published the Love Your Machine EP under Dj Emersosn’s Berlin imprint: Micro.Fon the following year. Further exploring the audiovisual aspect of his music, he created the video teaser for the single using J.G. Ballard’s “Crash” as reference and inspiration. In 2012 he returned to Droid for the release of New Flesh which included remixes by label owner Drumcell and CLR’s Brian Sanhaji. This year was also marked by people's interest in his sound with remix requests for legendary names like Jam n Spoon and The Advent. 2013 began with his first collaboration with Berlin based producer Material Object and the release of the Crowd Control EP under the Impact Unit moniker for the French label Silent Steps. Luis has represented México at the Meet in Beijing, FMEL in Chicago, Rock al Parque in Bogotá, Borderline Festival in China, Brussels BEMF, in his recent Australian tour, as well as the iconic Berghain club in Berlin during his last German tour. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| KOMPREZZOR | Secretechno - Sienna Obscure | Chicago Komprezzor is not simply another gimmick or project trying to reach for the sky, fame or mainstream, in the contrary he prefers to stay hidden in the darkest corner of that old abandoned factory were you once wondered if you even had the guts to step in. The sounds and elements of his live sets are dark and dirty as if they had been extracted from a piece of literature by Edgar Alan Poe. Full of white noises and atmospheric riffs the percussive elements are extracted from classic drum machines; such the legendary 808, 909, and 303 that slowly morph in to a hypnotic rhythm. Along with his live sets the Dj sets are also full of some of the dirtiest and darkest heart pounding Techno, no top 40 will ever make an appearance on his track list , interacting with up to 4 decks running at the same time and one machine it will make you wonder if a third arm was present at the time of total dance floor destruction…Currently spending and immense amount of time in the studio creating sounds and sequences he is gearing up for the launch of his own imprint called secreTechno that will have collaboration of some of the most respected Techno artist in the world and perhaps the universe. Komprezzor is an experience not an act you must be present to feel the bass hitting your face and kick ruining your inner equilibrium rather is a DJ set or a Live Pa one thing is for sure last night will be a blur. ----------------------------------------------- FORMAT LIVE (Mark Angel + Rayaline) | Chicago MARK ANGEL | Format Rec - Naked Lunch - Impact Mechanics - Amazone Very few would dispute Mark Angel as being one of the more prominent and exciting figures to emerge from Chicago in recent years. An accomplished producer, in-demand remixer and versatile performer, he is fast transitioning from Chicagos’ best-kept secret to one of Technos' up-coming leading lights, on a par with genre-defying luminaries such as the Advent, Drumcell, Mattias Fridell & Audio Injection/Truncate. Despite enjoying worldwide notoriety through his production and on deck performances, Mark hasn’t forgotten his influenced home grown roots. Co-founding FORMAT Recordings in 2013 with another Chicago rising Techno producer Marcos Raya aka Rayaline, the label will showcase international & local talents, like Ricardo Garduno, Komprezzor, Jeff Derringer, Trebor, Submerge, Therblig and many more, in a move to further raising the profile of Chicagos' Techno scene in North America and abroad. + RAYALINE - Format Rec - Glider - Pragmatik - Kompute The silent rise rise of Rayaline is a culmination of techno-punk-industrial projects to maintaining massive warehouse events with the Android Kult and a full immersion into audio/visual inspiration filled with dystopian dreams laced with analogous currents and dark textures that permeate his kinetic Dub-Techno. He has preformed through out Chicago and North America with renowned Chicago label Kompute Musik where he functions as an artist/visualizer. With forthcoming remixes on Kompute Musik and Pragmatik Recordings France, a EP on Glider Records Spain and hard hitting collaborations, He is ready to continue to push his sound on future releases worldwide. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| AXKAN | Secretechno - Nopalbeat | L.A. Going thru the electronic music projects in Mexico, we can say there is one that has have maintained the most original sound, creating the perfect combination of ethnic roots and electronic contemporary elements, we are talking about the project called Axkan. Kraftwerk, Skinny Puppy, Orbital, Plastikman, Detroit Techno among others, have been the source of inspiration to create his musical basis. Since his early ages in the late 80’s, Federico was a devoted participant in the Mexican electronic music movement; together with Luis Flores and Álvaro de la Rocha (Chetos) produced for many years in Mexico the first radio show dedicated exclusively to electronic music: “La Fabrica X” (The Factory X). As a teenager, Luis Flores and Federico started buying musical instruments, to start assembling a project focused in Industrial music and EBM. The first tools were a sampler Ensoniq EPS 16+, a synthesizer Yamaha YS200, a Roland Juno 106 and the sequencer Cadenza. Later on DJ Jorge HM was invited to the project; this created the first phase of “Double Helix”. Later on, Federico had the opportunity to live some experiences which made him conceive the idea of a different type of music where percussions and ethnic elements were more obvious and then blend those with electronic atmospheres from the end of XX century. For that reason, after working sometime in both projects simultaneously, Federico leaves Double Helix y creates his own project: Axkan, which means: “now” or “the present”, in náhuatl (native Mexican language). Up to this day, Axkan keeps morphing, it doesn’t sound as ethnic as his first works; also, his musical expression has been changing towards a deeper minimal techno sound; maybe due to the influence of living so close to Detroit (Chicago 1999-2011), and now living in Los Angeles. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| PINCHE COWBOYS | No Ratz - Uncle Tone | Chicago / Florida These DJ / Producers are known for lacing the freshest crates of underground records from across the globe. An exceptional selection of exclusive releases combined with an innate ability to work a crowd has fortified their brand and rapidly advanced their career. The team's undeniable authenticity can be credited to their primary influences Green Velvet, Tiefschwarz, Crookers, Abe Duque, Riccardo Villalobos, & Tiga. Pianist / Songwriter / DJ Uncle Tone began spinning progressive records in 1999, while Brandon K got his start spinning underground house in 2005. Initially they played records for their friends and experimented their live PA sets at house parties and rooftop events all over the city. It wasn't till the summer of 2007 when they both transitioned into the techno realm, forming the Chicago based techno duo known as The Pinche Cowboys. 2008 is when they rolled up their sleeves and set out to tackle their hometown. They spent the first month mixing their premier CD, blending their styles of jackin' techno records and dirty acid tracks. After two years of persistence, these guys surely exceeded their share of weak time slots and empty venues. One dive-bar gig after another further emphasized the need to directly engage with their audience. Despite being placed at the bottom of the bill, The Cowboys began to develop a consistent draw. Their fan base began to grow, and so did their buzz. Consistent bookings perpetuated offering shows at larger events and exclusive loft parties. In 2009 they promoted their follow-up set "Team USA" while spinning a local club on a Tuesday night. Despite a turnout of about 30 people their outlandish antics & after-hour intensity caught the attention of a local promoter from Intelligent Minds. Their distinctive sound and notable showmanship earned the two a prime spot at a renegade event the following Friday. Nearly a thousand people trekked through gravel roads and train tracks to arrive under a bridge on the Southside of Chicago. They were led about a mile to a secluded viaduct, surrounded by water, & a sound system ran on generators. As soon as the Pinche's got on the decks, hundreds of heads showed up. The Dj's ruled the crowd and in return gained a plethora of raging fans who will always remember the Pinche Cowboys kicking off the night with the vibe they came for. Certainly, this up-and-coming team would be at the turning point of their journey. Meanwhile, the guys climbed through the ranks and started locking the prime slots. Three years in the making, "Team USA 2" became an iconic success across the US and abroad. Their persona was successfully branded with over a thousand handmade mixes relentlessly distributed in 2010. A sudden demand in the rave scene delivered the energy, walls drenched in sweat, and the mobbed dance floors they were lusting for. Their following continually expanded to the point that fans started driving hours just to get a taste of their signature blend of grimy techno. The Pinche's began headlining for local promoters Vibe Tribe and Eclectic Grooves, while raves hosted by World of Source, Wicked Hallow and Winter Wonderland provided a great deal of exposure to an even broader demographic. The Chicago underground scene quickly recognized the Pinche Cowboys as a household name. Deeply rooted in the city of too many Dj's, it was certainly time for The Pinche Cowboys to expand beyond the local void. So they put together their own event and booked the East coast tag-team Monsterz Under The Bed. The success of "rEVOLVE" was shortly followed by shows in Baltimore in the spring of 2010 as well as headlining an event with G7 in Pennsylvania. The East coast trip turned a lot of heads and these two rocked the roof off as usual. A few weeks later the G7 crew flew the guys back out for another dose . By the summer these kids were on fire, playing a handful of shows a week. After crushing a 2a.m. set for Nocturnal Pulse's Lollapalooza after-party, they packed up their equipment and drove fifteen hours to G7's 3-day festival "Summer Sanctuary" in upstate New York. Immediately The special-guest DJ's were welcomed by gracious fans. Thirty hours after their Chicago gig, their sunrise set was an unforgettable one and rewarded the team with multiple promoters booking major East coast dates in June 2011. The Pinche Cowboys surely kicked off the new year with a bang. Accompanied by remarkable amounts of feedback and overwhelming support, 2010 delivered hundreds of die hard fans including 50 performances in 10 states. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| TREBOR | No Ratz | Chicago Since the middle of the 90's, Trebor has attended variations of different events where he picked up a form of electronic type of music called techno, which was performed live by artist all over the world. This has become the sole reason for his passion of the art. Since then, nothing has stopped him to peruse his lifelong dream of becoming the best at his form. His long journey and struggle through the music industry has made Trebor a very well known Techno DJ of his time. Trebor is from Chicago, Illinois, who plays an assortment of Techno. He began his career in early 2000, but was inspired by the underground Techno movement of the mid and late 90’s; which was during the Chicago House music explosion and of the legendary House DJ's of that era. He started his DJ career with a different more cutting edge of music that has been drawing peoples’ attention and ear from every live performance. His popularity quickly began to grow by DJ'ing on a local TV network (Hot Wax TV) when he made several nationwide appearances on this local TV network. His DJ career started to take off middle of 2000 in many different types of media; internet, television, radio, clubs and underground parties throughout Chicago and the Suburbs. His inspiration came from many of the best well known artists around; such artists include Adam Beyer, Richie Hawtin also known as “Plastikman”, Hyperactive, Derrick Carter, Justin Long and a long time friend Marcus Watkins. He developed his own style from a combination of all his inspirations, quite unique. Trebor blends one record into the other that makes you feel like you’re on a journey. His performances are like reading a story book, filled with emotion from beginning to end. This makes his style so unique that it raises the bar in the DJ world. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------| LOW LOW | Deadly Minds | Chicago Being infatuated and obsessed with MUSIC since a child, it's no surprise that Low Low is now at the helm, behind the decks after 7 years, beatin' you down with the TECHNO SOUND. Always staying true to his roots, you can find Low at the grimiest rave to a secret loft somewhere in the windy city all the way to a field in bufu NWI whoopin that behind with custom blends you've never heard in or around the city. Specializing in, none other than TECHNO, you will hear the funkiest of FUNK, the hardest of HARD, the dustiest of OLD SKOOL and the most primitive/intense TRIBAL you've ever heard... At this rate, you might even hear sounds you never thought this madman would select.. All to make you dance the dance you've never danced before.. This man will not stop until he achieves one thing, puttin you in the PSYCH WARD with those beats haunting your brain.. (they'll never believe you, :D) Keep a close eye on this cat here, for you won't see him at EDC, NORTH COAST or any other RAGER party for that matter, LOW LOW is here to keep it 200% REAL and ABOUT THE MUSIC. Low would rather PAY to arrive at a true underground event, than BE PAID to play a rager party.. TRUTH... JOE BUDDAH | No Ratz | Chicago

Q: On No. 2, what software or hardware are you using for the sustaining groove beats? (If you don't mind giving away secrets!) :-) ~ FlawGeek of Drift Flaw
A: We LOVE Logic, but also love hardware sampling as it provides us with a much different attitude when writing a new track
