Playful Soul - a brand of R&B/jazz/soul-flavoured music with cheeky inflections.

Pebbles’ debut album, titled as such, amplifies this concept, carrying sometimes melancholy subject matter with unlikely yet effective nonchalance. The album deals mostly, but not exclusively, with matters of the heart. She Is, for example, is the story of a woman who remains nameless and faceless by virtue of her being a celebrity’s lover. Emandulo, confronts the issue of identity from a different perspective, bemoaning the loss of cultural values prescribed by our ancestors. Producers Tongo, Nyambz and Jerah made the 12 gorgeous melodies that make up Playful Soul. Simply put by the singer herself, ‘there is nothing out there like it.’

Who is she?

Yes, Pebbles is my real name... my gran loved the flintstones (what more can I say?) I guess you could say singing and songwriting are part of my genetic makeup... I was born to sing...plain and simple! Another day, another song, another heartache, another song, another drink, another song, another lover... and so it goes! I draw my inspiration from the pain and beauty of life, so I guess you could say it's art reflecting life, reflecting me...fabulously!

Accolades

Pebbles debut album Playful Soul - released in 2005 was nominated in the best R&B and Best Female Artist categories at the 2006 MTN South African Music Awards.

Projects

For the past 4 years Pebbles has been a member of the Joburg-based band Newtown, who play their own blend of funk/soul/blues/rock/Afro-inspired music, loosely filed under the term “Jozi Soul”. Her sultry and powerful vocals soar over the grooves laid down by one of the tightest rhythm sections in the country.

Pebbles solo repertoire comprises a blend of original RnB/Jazz originals and timeless Jazz standards. She has cultivated her own unique style of melodic poetry that never fails to keep audiences captivated.
