Music management company Rhythm Section have spent the last couple years establishing themselves as authorities on all things hip in the Aussie blues and roots scene, and their Christmas parties at The Vanguard in Newtown have become legendary. This year’s bash is happening on Wednesday 18th December and features a gaggle of groovy artists strutting their stuff in a jam session format which is likely to yield some surprising musical results. Melbourne acoustic guitar master Lloyd Spiegel will be joined by ARIA nominee Paul Greene and newcomers Eddie Boyd & The Phatapillars. Extraordinary organist Lachy Doley will be sitting in with Simon Meli’s band The Widowbirds, and queen of bluesy soul Cass Eager and recent MusicOz winner Claude Hay will be getting his mojo working with the ferals from Byron Bay Marshall Okell & The Pride The Vanguard will be set up in cocktail mode with plenty of room for urban hillbillies to get their chicken dance happening on the floor. Tickets are limited and are $22 + booking fee, available online from www.thevanguard.com.au or $25 at the door if available. For a closer look at the artists performing head to www.rhythmsection.com

“While remaining remained a staunchly independent artist and largely existing under the radar of mainstream attention, Greene’s work, which spans blues, country, folk and pop with aplomb, has attracted some high-profile supporters. The Waifs and John Butler have sounded their approval, while Midnight Oil’s Rob Hirst collaborated with him under the Hirst & Greene moniker. Recently, Waterboys frontman Mike Scott got in touch to offer congratulations on Greene’s cover of his The Whole of The Moon.”
