Haunted House is gorgeous Eli. Love the tune and the perfect words to this great track. Frank Smith
Eli Samuel Bentley’s coffee shop performance on Friday night was as real as rain, proud as wheat, and true as dirt on the back forty. Last night, Eli took us on a long ride in the back of a pick-up truck on the way to church, only his apostles were Johnny Cash, Samuel Beam, and the Avett brothers.
To categorize his choice in music as mere folk is to ignore the genuine experience he brings to the Twin Cities from a lifetime of enduring the unrelenting cold wind that sweeps across the flat lands of northern Minnesota. Death, family, and hardship were recurring themes that were delivered with redeeming sweetness and gentle understanding that made these subjects personal and bearable. Bentley’s incantations of Murder in the City and Naked as we Came revealed his subtle understanding of the music that was consistently more inspired than the original recordings.
