Album Reviews The Hawkeyes by The Hawkeyes
This one surprised me by showing up in the mail the other day. Warning, this isn’t stoner rock.
The Ep is a self titled by The Hawkeyes. The sound is very americana rock featuring lots of acoustic and electric guitar.
In the one sheet provided with the EP the band mentions comparisons to bands such as The Black Crowes, Neil Young, John Mellencamp amongst a few other big bands. That’s actually pretty accurate. Vocally The Hawkeyes could be mistaken for a bit harder version of John Mellencamp or when he was still known ans John Cougar Mellencamp. It has that distinct sound. The opening track, “Double E” as well as “Joe” certainly have that sound and charm of a classic Mellencamp track. “Junior’s Night Out” is a pretty kick ass tune. It’s a down and dirty song. The instruments, for this style, are aggressive. It’s the most catchy of the 4 songs on the EP.The closer, “7 & A Quarter” is pretty cool too. The whole tone and mood of the song is quite fitting and a good track to end the EP with.
This EP isn’t for everyone. If you only listen to more aggressive stuff that is covered here, this may not be for you. Fans of Mellencamp’s earlier material, Neil Young’s more country rock stuff, southern rock like Skynyrd or Hatchet or even Sweet Kiss Momma are going to really dig these guys. OPM Video Shoot
One Pretty Minute shoot their video debut AUG 4 at Alrosa Villa in Columbus OH.
OPM recently released their EP on BHR featuring Hurt You, Addict, and Breathe of which Addict is starting to get notice by commercial radio after receiving play on Columbus Ohio's 99.7 The Blitz.
They will be kicking off their 'Feed the Addict' Tour at Alrosa in Sept before heading out of toen for a series of shows before returning home at O' Shecky's towards the end of September. O'Shecky's is where the band held their CD Release party in June.
