another year has flown by for all of us. Seems like time goes faster as more and more things come into your life. Its been an interesting journey for KUDZU as well. December 9th will be the fourth anniversary of our first appearance as a band at a benefit in Greenback. Nearly 300 shows and some personnel changes later we are still out there "spreading the vine". We've begun to work on some new music in hopes of getting a third CD compiled in the coming year, and we hope folks will be as receptive to the new music as they have been in the past. We can never express how much the support of family, friends, fans and our venue partners means to the band. It's only with your being behind us that allows us to carry on. As the holidays approach, please remember the reason we celebrate this time of year and don't allow the hectic pace and commercialism block your ability to view "Christmas as a child". See ya soon, happy holidays from KUDZU!!!!
well the summer has passed us by. We had a really good season with outdoor shows at several venues including area marinas and restaurants. As the colder months approach, we find out schedule quite full through the end of the year and dates already coming in for 2014. This year also saw a new leaf added to the vine with the arrival of Jasper Pribek. We are proud to add him to the family he's a cute feller indeed. We again cannot thank our families friends and venues for supporting us in our endeavors. December 9th will mark the 4year anniversary of the band. And while we've had some personnel changes, the music is the thing that has stayed constant. Playing for the crowds and working new venues keeps it fresh for all involved. As we move forward with plans on the drawing board for a third CD, we are looking to 2014 to be as equally rewarding as the previous three years have been.
well summer is finally here, humidity and all and we are rolling right along. We have 12 shows scheduled in August alone, so it's a very busy month for the band. Our dance card is pretty well filled up through the end of the year as well and we could not be more grateful for that fact. It won't be long until the holidays are upon us and then 2014 will make its appearance as well. Glad to already have bookings for 2014 locked in as well as quite a large number that we are just waiting to receive the final dates on. A great number of the new venues on our schedule this year are looking to be regular stops for us in 2014. Again we cannot thank the venues our friends and families enough for their support as the vine keeps growing!!!
summer finally made its arrival with a burst of humidity and unannounced thunderstorms. But since we were complaining about the cold in January, why complain right? But summer also brings the ability for us to work at marinas and outdoor venues. And we have quite a few of them coming up. In July, August and September we have 23 shows booked and 14 of those are at family friendly outdoor venues. We are very proud to be headlining the City of Athens Sounds of Summer Concert on July 20 in downtown Athens. One in a series, the Tom Petty tribute band "Wrecked" will be opening up the show starting at 7p. September sees us on the Star of Knoxville Riverboat for a UT Pep Rally cruise on the 28th before the South Alabama game. Our new drummer Rick Rand has been meshing in very nicely, bringing his experience and style to add to the groove we create. All in all its a busy summer for the band and we are looking forward to seeing every one
well its been a wet spring for sure. Already had one cancellation due to the weather but it looks like clearer skies on the horizon. Another leaf has turned on the vine as we welcome in Rick Rand as our new timekeeper. Rick is a seasoned player with exceptional time and a flair that goes beyond the normal 4/4, keep the beat kind of playing. We hope you can make it out to a show very soon and hear Rick play. Lots of shows upcoming from Sevierville at the Roaming Gnome a new venue for us to Lake City and the V Nightclub, and many other points in and between as well as our favorite haunts like River Rock and Skyway.
just went through our bookings and realized we have topped the 50 date plateau again this year. We've been very fortuate to average over 70 shows a year since the bands inception and hopefully we're well on the way there again this year .Can't begin to thank the venues and friends, family and fans that have allowed us to reach this level , and also appreciate the bandmates that travel all over doing this thing we love doing.
March has arrived and it doesn't feel much different than January. As we roll into spring we are very proud to be involved with some worthwhile events and organizations. We started the year with The Daily Times Weekend Section 15th Anniversary party, a great friend to KUDZU and a super fun time. March sees the band performing at a benefit for a longtime member of the Maryville American Legion and a return to the OAA Center in Madisonville for the Full Throttle Warriors Blessing of the Bikes. April will have the band performing at a benefit for fallen soldier Frankie Watson's Scholarship Foundation as well as the "Rock the Cradle" benefit to help the Blount Co. Infant Safe Place program. One true thought of all the band is that charity begins at home and we are very proud to particiapte in each of these wonderful events. Add these to our regular schedule of shows and KUDZU has 44 performances on the books for 2013; the majority in the first 6 months. With this schedule, we may well break our record of 75 shows form 2011. We hope to see everyone at a show, or better yet, shows very soon.
the holidays have come and gone and we hope they were wonderful for you. As 2013 rolls on we have already scheduled nearly 40 shows visiting some old haunts for the first time in a while. We also have been getting the ball rolling on work for our third CD. if all goes well, a new KUDZU Cd should be ready to go by late this year or early 2014. Again we can't thank everyone for all the support we have been shown and hope to keep the vine growing!!! Look forward to seeing you at a show very soon!
In this world that at times has seemed to gone crazy as a friend of ours says, it's so comforting to know that the holidays will bring out the very best in the human nature. Seeing the wide eyed wonder of children or the smiles on the faces of old friends sharing the holidays season together is one of the most wonderful things that anyone can experience. As it is also a time to be thankful, KUDZU is beyond thankful for all the people we have met, all the venues we have been fortunate enough to perform at and overall the ability to do something we truly enjoy and hopefully others do as well. Keep good thoughts of those less fortunate than yourself at the forefront this season and please never forget the real reason we celebrate this time of year. Its not about an iPad or a big screen, but the joyous birth of a child born into the meekest and barest of circumstances. Merry CHRISTMAS and Happy New Year from KUDZU!!!!
October has arrived and I hope its getting the reaining out of its system early. Biggest opportunity for the band this month as we perform at the Foothills Fall Festival opening for Train and Andy Grammar. Hope our mix of country rock will go over well with the crowd. Thius is one of those opportunities you can't buy ( well you can but it cost a lot of butt kissing and selling your soul). I hope all who can will make it out and support not just us but all the local acts as well as the Festival and keep the great event rolling along. Want to wish a happy birthday to little JJ Kelso as he turns the big 1. He his daddy and mom will always be part of the KUDZU family. Well thats all til I think of something else t blater on about!!!
