What I know about the music industry and copyrights.

The music industry can be a very tricky place to work. I am an indie artist and I have been for over 14 years. I love what I do but I haven't gotten to the point where i am making a lot of money or enough money to leave my other job yet. I sing in a Urban Contemporary Gospel Duet group with my younger sister Tj. We have been singing together all of our lives. We love to sing. When we first began to write our own songs I didn't know much about copyrights and many other things but after months of research I found out what i needed to do. It is important to do the leg work before you start puting your material online and singing your songs everywhere. The business side of music is so important. I have learned a lot by trial and error. Concerning copyrights, I began by submitting one song to the Library of Congress (www.loc.gov, (202) 707-3000 or 1-877-476-0778 (toll free). I sent in one song because at first I thought I could only copyright one song for $30. This was about 12 years ago. I didn't know about content title copyrighting. As I did more research I found out that if I copyrighted my songs through content title I could copyright 20 or more songs at one time for one low price. I tried this and it worked. I was able to copyright about 10 to 15 songs for $30. With content title copyrights, you come up with a content title that will represent all of your songs as a whole and then on the next line you will list all of the names of the songs that you will be including with your paper work. Make sure to send a copy of the lyrics to each song on separate sheets of paper and make sure to list all the authors on the lyrics sheets and the date it was written. Make sure to have the same authors for every song that you are submitting because your application will be denied if you don't have the same authors on every song. I tried to submit a form that had me, my sister and my mother as the author of one song and then I listed myself, and my sister as the author of another song and my mother was the author of that song too so they sent my application back and it was denied. They also kept my filing fee of $30 but l was lucky that the copyright office let me resubmit my paperwork correctly without paying an extra fee. You also need to register with ASCAP or BMI. That is another subject. My advise to anyone going into the music business is to do your research and get the business part done and then have fun on stage.

Stay tuned for more info.

Married life and finding love

I never knew that being married would be so fun until I met my husband! My 1st marriage was a testing of my faith and it really prepared me for the blessing I have now! Everyone has wants but God will give you just what you need if you ask Him for it! Every marriage has it's up's and down's but for the most part, I can say that if you are married to someone who truly love's you unconditionally, then marriage is a big blessing! Marriage takes a lot of work and it's not for everyone! But if you are fornicating (having sex before marriage, sleeping around) then you need to make a decision! If that man or that woman doesn't want to marry you and do things the way God had intended for them to be, then you are with the wrong person! Fornication( sex before marriage is the only sin that involves you using your body)! Think twice before you lose your soul for 2minutes for fun! God can be everything you need and he will give you someone that will love you just as you are! I am a living witness that God will give you someone that will do it the right way and love you ! A man know's weather or not they want to spend the rest of their lives with you in a very short time of dating! I met my husband in February of 2006. We talked on the phone very often and we went out on dates! By May of 2006 my husband started talking about how much he loved me and how he saw me as his wife! by July of 2006, my husband had proposed to me and on August 12, 2006 we got married! My husband dated me and he let me know that I was important in his life! If a man really wants you he will let it be known and he will marry you and it won't take 2, 3, 4 or 5 yrs! That's too long to date someone! Ladies, dont waist your time in those kind of relationships! I can remember doing that once and I thought for sure that the guy truly loved me and when he finished school he would marry me but he never wanted to really make that commitment to me, so I ended up wasting 2 or 4yrs of my life! So take it from me, if your man isn't talking about marriage by 1yr or 1yr 1/2, its time to move on! God Bless

Help you or Hurt you

People are in your life for one of two reasons. The first reason is to help you! When God allows a person to be part of your life to help you, that means he or she is going to help you during your current season and possibly the next seasons, to push you to your destiny and their help may sometimes hurt you because no one wants the truth when its about them. When it hurts you, its making you a better you, its breaking down some walls in your life so God can use you for His glory. The second reason is to hurt you! Some people mean you no good. A lot of times we try to keep people in our life past their season. Everything has a season, whether it be short, long or the rest of your life! Its up to you to know when its time to let go and that's some of our problem, we are holding on to some relationships that God has released us from! And in that we could hold up our growth. What kind of relationships do you currently entertain, ones that build you and the other person up or one sided ones?

We love how we were raised (Thanks Mom and Dad)

I grew up on a farm filled with chickens, geese, cows, milking cow, dogs, cats, rabbits, pear tree, crab apple trees, plum tree, fig tree, mustard dime tree, bailing hay with my dad, cutting off the cows horns, going to the auction, driving the tracker at 8 yrs old, plowing the garden filled with collard greens, turnip greens, tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, cabbage, squash, etc! I loved living in the country, riding the 3 wheeler, go cart, bikes, fishing with my dad, chopping down trees for wood with my dad, mom, Nita, Klynell and my uncle Baydoll, working on the farm with my mom and dad, planting flowers, eating honey suckle, and catching lightening bugs in a jar. My parents taught me how to make it in any situation! I know how to survive and I'm grateful for the survival skills that I was taught! One day I gotta go back to my roots and start my own garden lol!

We weren't rich but we were rich with love for each other. My mom use to make Tonita and I the same outfits and we looked just like twins. My mother use to be a designer but she put her dreams on hold to raise us and be there for us in every way. Every school program, every new opportunity, I could always look around and see my mom there clapping for me and praising me. When I was 7 years old my mom began talking to me about what happens to a woman's and a man's body. She was the firsts to tell me how to be a lady and that I am beautiful and that my virginity was precious and I didn't have to give myself to every man that told me I was pretty! I remember talking to my mom very often about how a woman develops and what I needed to do! this is the kind of mom I am striving to be! There were a lot of things that I didn't understand but now I'm glad my mom didn't let me go everywhere and I'm glad she was a little hard on me! Those were some of the best days of my life! Nothing like country living! But I have written all this to say, that I love my mom, and my dad and I love how I was raised!
