Well, it's January 1, 2012. In a way, I'm ready for it. So many times, the last impression is most memorable. In late November, my wife's brother-in-law died after battling chronic illnesses for over 30 years. Her sister and niece had to move away to her other sister's home. All in just eight days. It was devastating to her. And then on December 30, I had to make the heart breaking decision to have our cat put to sleep after suffering with cancer for 4 months. From that stand point, I'm ready for 2011 to just go away. In another way, I'm sad to see it go. I've made some wonderful friends. Many of them the finest singer/songwriters and artists this town has to offer. I've played a lot of gigs, written some great songs, and made some great recordings. I watched my wife make great advances at her job. Our time together is reduced, though. But we've grown to appreciate what little time we can syphen from this whirlwind we call this life of ours. I watched my son develop his amazing talent for song writing, arranging, and recording. I watched the fledgling company I work for grow 4-fold in just 12 months. I've also lined up several gigs for 2012. And one of my musician friends wants to help me get into the studio to record a CD. Yes, it's January 1, 2012, and it's already shaping up to be a banner year. I'm really looking forward to what's in store. More gigs, more songs, more great friends, and more great memories. May 2012 bring you much peace and happiness, and many great memories.
That Magical Moment by Gavin Caster on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at 10:23pm You know you've experienced it. it's happened to all of us. You hear a song on the radio-some major artist. You love the song, Go out and spend $18.00 on a CD, $17.50 goes to finance a gigantic corperate machine. You come to love every song. Learning every word of every song. And then spend $50.00 or $60.00 on a ticket to see the major artist. The lights dim, and there it is- that magical moment. They play every song that you've come to love-frome at least 30 feet away. You go home feeling elated....and broke. So here's something to think about. Our fair city has lots of magical moments. Everywhere. Just listen to WFPK 91.9 FM or Crescent Hill Radio on line or 1650 AM. Or just go to Ear X-tacy and spend $5.00 to $10.00 on a local artist CD. Fall in love with the songs. Learn every word of every song. Then spend $5 or $10 cover charge (many times no cover). And then experience it-that same magical moment. Only this time, you can have a nice dinner, chat with the artist, socialize with really great people. And feel good that you supported a local artist, a local business, and go home with a full stomach, and a wallet a lot less empty.
