On November 11th, 2011, Polyrhythmics will release their debut slab of wee-wax with a limited
pressing from Kept Records. After countless queries, suggestions and damn near threatening
requests for a Polyrhythmics 45rpm release, the band has now teamed up with a small upstart
label based in Alberta, Canada to deliver on these heated calls for a vinyl release.
Kept Records stumbled upon the Seattle-based Polyrhythmics during an intergalactic search
for quality sounds across the lines, and quickly realized that the Polyrhythmics’ sound needed
to be embalmed in wax for the people to hear, have and hold. The result is this limited run 7-
inch of pure deep funk and afro-groove sounds.
Polyrhythmics have gained notoriety playing to packed clubs and festival crowds all over the
Northwest. Their small run and now sold-out EP released in 2010, was quick to chart on radio
playlists up and down the west coast following its issue.
After a year of further developing their distinct sound, the band recorded their first full-length
album. The resulting “Labrador” is a 9- song powerhouse full of brooding dance grooves, and
catchy layered horn melodies. “Labrador” was recorded at Sleng Teng Studios (located in an
old metal foundry in Northwest Washington State) specifically for it’s vintage sound, and the
recording process was very similar to their approach on the EP: “live” in one room - - just the
way a funk album should be. “Labrador” debuted internationally on June 1st 2011 to critical
acclaim and established a place at the ever crowded funk table for this fast-moving, powerhouse
of a band.
Drawing from modern influences such as the Budos Band and The Whitefield Brothers as well
as their original influences like Fela Kuti, and James Brown, this debut 45 clearly showcases
the tight horns, infectious percussion and powerful rhythms of the Polyrhythmics; the very
rhythms that hit people in the feet, and keep bodies moving on the dancefloor.

Polyrhythmics Debut Album: “Labrador” to be released June 1st 2011
Polyrhythmics will release their long anticipated, fan funded, debut full length album on June 1st 2011. A virtual rhythmic journey to all corners of the earth, “Labrador” incorporates all of the dynamic interplay, deep, percolating grooves, and melodic wizardry that audiences across the Northwest have latched onto during the band’s first year of live performances. Polyrhythmics’ early acclaim found them turning down some very well known, nationally acclaimed artists who contacted the band about guesting on their first album. “ We wanted to present the sound of the “Polyrhythmics” in a pure and honest format to our loyal fans and supporters who have packed the clubs and funded this recording through our kickstarter campaign”, says Ben Bloom guitarist, and manager for Polyrhthmics.
Polyrhythmics came together to record their now sold out EP in Jan of 2010. After just three rehearsals, the band entered the studio to record “live” in one room together. The result was a magical alchemy of dance grooves, jazz hooks and spontaneous improvisation that was dripping with originality, while paying homage to the great funk and soul dance bands of the late 60’s and early 70’s. Receiving radio play across the Great Northwest, the band soon found themselves performing to packed clubs and festival audiences. After a year of further developing their distinct yet tangible sound, the band launched a “kickstarter” campaign to fund the recording of their first full-length album. The resulting “Labrador” is a 9-song powerhouse full of brooding dance grooves, and catchy layered horn melodies. Recorded at Sleng Teng Studios in Bellingham, specifically for it’s vintage sound, the recording process was very similar to their approach on the EP: “live” in one room, just like the greats of yester-year. Drawing from modern influences such as the Budos Band and The Whitefield Brothers as well as their original influences like Fela Kuti, and James Brown, “Labrador” is a shining example of the chemistry between these 8 talented performers and why in a seemingly endless sea of new funk bands, Polyrhythmics is the band everyone is talking about.
After releasing “Labrador” with a free hometown show in Seattle, WA at Wallingford Center on June 1st, additional CD release shows are planned for: Olympia, WA on June 2nd @ The Eastside Club, Seattle, WA on June 25th @ The Hard Rock Café, Portland, OR on June 30th @ The Goodfoot, and in Bellingham, WA on July 8th @ The Boundary Bay Brewery.
Polyrhythmics will continue to tour regionally throughout the summer in support of the new album, and plan to head back into the studio in late fall.
