The Great OK/North Texas Blizzard of Aught 10....

It all started in Tulsa, OK. It had been snowing on us since we arrived, and everyone was dressed as if we were still in Texas... Thank you El Niño.

The weather was getting pretty bad, so we decided to hightail it back to Texas before we got snowed in or something... exodus 1:30am. It was snowing when we left, but not too bad. But at about McAlester, OK, we were then traveling at about 35mph on the Indian Nation Turnpike. Full on heavy snow. Looking out the window was like staring at that old Windows screensaver with the stars going lightspeed... but on steroids. Honestly it wasn't too bad, until Texas that is. Oklahoma actually knows how to clear their roads when it is snowing. Texas on the other hand, there are no roads. You feel like you are driving on the bunny slope of some ski resort. Just follow the tail lights in front of you and hope for the best - while everywhere around us, there were skidded out cars buried in the snow banks on either side, like frozen fallen comrades on our ascent of Mt. Everest... But we made the trip to Dallas in a little over 6 hours (it's supposed to take 4 or so).

Now comes the really fun part. WE MADE IT! Or so we thought... South of Dallas, around Waxahachie, the weather had cleared up. So we came up over this hill and there were a few cars on the side of the road with their emergency flashers on. We slowed down... then all hell broke loose. There was a giant ice patch on the road that we hit around 60mph or so, sending us careening towards the middle barrier. Regaining a small amount of control, the White Stallion (our Excursion FYI) pulled back to the right, and off the highway. Excursion and trailer were then spinning in the grass. Two 360s later, the trailer jack knifed, hit the side of the car, popped off the hitch, did a flip and landed upside down. We walked away without a scratch... the trailer on the other hand... so much...

While we were surveying the damage, FOUR MORE cars spun off the road! One of which slammed into the middle barrier, and another spun right towards us and we literally had to run and dive out of the way to not get hit!

The important thing, though, is everyone is A-OK and even our music equipment survived, though some of the cases are a little worse for wear - but that's what cases are for right??

So we press on this week! Right after going trailer shopping...
