Feeling very Blessed to be doing this thing called music at this stage of my life. This is turning out to be a busy year, with not only the boys in the band , but with my acoustic solo shows, and the incredible Blackwater Band. This weekend is a wild one for sure. MDB tonite, my solo show on sat afternoon, and with Blackwater in Baxley, sat nt. Still writing and recording new music, and putting a new acoustic project together. Busy busy busy. Wow 5 shows on the books and more to come. Lots of unplugged shows plus gigs with the incredible Blackwater Band, as well as my own trio The Mike Derhamer Band. Good day to all. While these are not meant to be words to live by , they do come from experience. As many of you know I love music, all kinds of music. I never settled into one style or another. That being said I do have my influences, whether I acknowledged them or not.If you're like me you write what comes to you from insperation. While I have been fairly successful in my writng one thing keeps coming up. Who do I sound like? My good friend narrowed it down to being stuck in the 80"s. Not a bad thing but very dated to say the least.Point being the so called industry wants something fresh so they say, but what they realy want is to force feed us the same stuff over and over again till it is no longer selling ,then they move on to the next.While I wish I could be more successful I'm happy to just be me and turn out the music that comes from within. Maybe I'm successful after all ,because I get to do what I love . It's not about money, at least not for me. Good luck in all you do and above all, remember why you do this , and stay true to yourself. MHD
