Even though this trip was mainly meant to be a vacation and to spend some time with family, I ended up playing a couple of shows around the area where i was born. The club we played on the first night is called "DasHaus" and its the most recent incarnation of a club we used to play in the 90's. It was called Cafe Dome then and its located right in the middle of Ludwigshafen, an industrial town about 30 miles from Heidelberg. It holds about 200 people and its inside a "cultural center" owned and sponsored by the town of Ludwigshafen. Once a month they host what they call the " Blues Session" when they invite artists from out of town to join local bands. This is the second year I have been fortunate to play with the "Elville Blues Band". I have known Tom Schaffert, the guitar player, for a few years now and it is always great fun to sit in with these guys. In addition to the "regular" band, Michael Steiner joined us on Sax. A great, high energy player who is a lot of fun to watch and listen to.
The following evening we were invited to play at "Weinstube Ultes" in the nearby "palatine" area known for its wine. Even though the place is not your "typical Blues club", the audience was great and by the end of the night the place was jumping! Both nights were a treat. Since then, I have been hanging out, relaxing (even though I ended up catching a cold) and enjoying the wind up to the Christmas season here.
Looking forward to a few more days here and then getting back home. Hope you had a great Thanksgiving!!
I wanted to check in with everyone on our mailing list to let you know that the new CD is finally finished and ready for you to listen to. As promised, you will be able to download all of the songs free of charge.
I am doing this in part to express my appreciation for the support you have given me by coming to the shows and your support for live independent music in general.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to talk a little bit about the CD and what went into it. Eight of the ten songs on this CD are original, some of which I have been playing live for the past two years. Others are new and we are just starting to perform them live with the band. The remaining two, “Jigsaw Puzzle” and “Going to Brownsville” are my interpretations of songs written by Danny Kirwan and Sleepy John Estes.
Even more than my previous projects, the music is diverse and I made a conscious effort to let each song dictate the way it was arranged, performed and recorded. I hope you find this diversity enjoyable. I would like to invite you to write your opinions and thoughts. I am very much interested in what your first impressions are.
Above all, I want to thank all of the musicians that shared their great abilities and talents with me to make this happen.
Be well, see you at one of the shows and I hope you’ll enjoy the music
