Songs Are Like Babies

Songs are like babies. Babies are like songs. At least, that's how I view it. I guess that's just the Mother in me. First, they are both conceived through a Miracle too big to fully comprehend. Next, they begin to take form, and providing conditions are all in Perfect order, are (both) eventually born into the world, for all to enjoy! If the 'pregnancy' (or the vessel) was healthy, and the baby (or song) was properly 'nourished' the birth then takes place.

Once the 'baby/song' is born, it is given a name, or sometimes, this happens even prior to the actual 'birth'. The name would be the 'title' of the song. Now. The baby or 'song' begins to grow...and it gets nourished. First by it's mother and/or father, (or in the case of a song, the writer/s) and slowly the beloved song-child is introduced to a world of other people.

As the baby (or song) is introduced to others, those people can have either a positive or negative effect on it's life. That is up to the parent/s to decide. If the baby (or song) is introduced to someone who is shady or shall we say, non-trustworthy, whether un-qualified, unwilling or unable, of course the parent would 'protect' it from potential harm. For a song this is usually sought through Copyright protection. In parental terms regarding an actual baby, it would be the Certificate of Live birth. Both sets of parents are then required to depend on and trust their own judgement, as to the 'best' way to nurture their infant.

Remember, the parent/s must LOVE this baby, otherwise the baby won't grow. All actions of a 'loving' parent are instinctual. Equally so, I believe the 'author' or writer of a song, must first love his/her own song, if ever anyone else is to love it, and nurture it's growth.

I may not know where I'm going...but I know where I been!!!

I'm a Native Texan, Louisiana/Mississippi Girl, with deep Carolina Roots! In no particular order...

A child of the Military...conceived in Love and raised by my Soulmate parents, I have been blessed!

Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, I was raised to believe that "things were bigger and better in Texas"! It was no accident that I weighed 9 pounds 11 ounces at birth, and nearly killed my Mama! :) I was proud to be from Texas, and I still am. Even though I have NO memories of Texas...because of my Dad's duty to service...I was "raised" for the most part, in the mountains of North Carolina. My grandparents all were there, and that's where we'd come "home" to every year for Christmas, holidays, and vacations. It was home and the beautiful and great Smokey Mountains provided a nice backdrop for my musical interests. Around the age of 7 or 8, we moved to Ferriday, Louisiana. He was stationed in Nachez, Mississippi, just across the river...And I loved everything about our lives down here...I remember the Military shelter that the US Navy allowed us to stay in during Hurricane, Camille... Now, that a sight to see! Yet, I was safe..and protected. It was THEN, I knew I was truly "home". Don't ask me how I knew, I just did. I felt it. I fell in love with the black bayou's, the people, the food, and Bobby Gentry music! "I will return to you one day!", I said as we were packing up to re-locate yet another State. And I did. It took me 30 years to get back, but I made it back!

North Carolina is still where I go to visit my "home away from home" as my family still resides there...And Texas? Well, I'll get back there one day too! Daddy & Mama didn't name me Dixie Lee for nothing! I may have been a "surprise" but I was no accident! :)

God bless y'all! Thanks for stopping by! Have a beautiful day!
