NOTES BETWEEN THE NOTES

Some background music… I’ve toured the world as a vocalist and have been writing songs and working in recording studios for most of my life. In 1977 I settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where studios and nightclubs were thriving. Through my studio vocal work, I got an opportunity to go on the road as a backup singer for Tammy Wynette in 1978-79. After returning to Atlanta, I met Flip Gallion in 1980 and we married in ‘82. Altogether I ended up being part of the Atlanta music scene for 24 years – an amazing time in my life. ~^~^~ By the late nineties I had begun formulating ideas for an album of original songs, planning on hiring some of the talented musicians and engineers I’d met along the way. But in the year 2000, all of our dreams vanished when our only child, Cameron, was diagnosed with an incurable disease. Our lives were shattered and the music inside of me was silenced — forever, I thought. Flip and I lost Cameron in February 2002; he was 14. By that time, we had moved to Amelia Island, Florida, a place that has become our sanctuary. Thanks to Flip’s patience and encouragement, along with some talented Fernandina Beach musicians who helped me see the light of music again, I’ve been able to slowly rekindle my songwriting and find a renewed voice. ~^~^~ Among the many talented musicians I had worked with in Atlanta was a man named Blue Miller (known then as Bill Mueller). Blue has a remarkable list of credentials and awards for his work as a guitarist, songwriter, vocalist, producer and engineer. Flip and I have great memories of hanging out with Blue and his wife, Beth, and recording demos in their home studio — all of which, to this day, stand out as among the best I’ve ever recorded. Last year I started daydreaming about how great it would be to record again with Blue. We’d lost track of him and Beth when they moved to Nashville around 1990. With persistent detective work, I was able to track them down and we reunited last year. ~^~^~ The catalyst to get me going on my current project was a rude awakening about Internet marketing. Years ago, I was fortunate to have my song THE WOMAN IN ME recorded by Crystal Gayle. I uploaded Crystal’s gorgeous version on MySpace and was pleased to see how many people were listening. Sony Entertainment Corporation was also listening and in 2009 they demanded that I remove the song! I own the copyright and ASCAP publishing rights, but, as was made clear by Sony, not the rights to their production. I knew I’d have to record my own version of THE WOMAN IN ME in order to promote it. ~^~^~ We recorded these three songs, including THE WOMAN IN ME, at Blue’s private studio on the outskirts of Nashville. Flip and I went there in early February this year and had the time of our lives. Blue and Beth chose the rhythm section (guitar, bass, keyboards & drums). I was speechless when I learned that I would be recording with some of the nation’s top players. Blue’s production and the overall musicianship and quality on these three recordings have surpassed my dreams and expectations. I hope to have seven more finished someday soon. The album is titled: Saltwater, Light and Magnetism.
