SUPPORT ORIGINAL MUSIC!

I walked into a new gig last night with no idea what was going to go down. It was at the most unlikely of venues, but I knew one thing: the wonderful event coordinator that I was working with had booked me on the credibility of my demo, and said nothing of performing cover tunes, which is atypical, to say the least (in fact she praised the recording so highly that I added her kind words to my quote sheet). So I was going to go in there and play originals until someone came up and directed me to play cover tunes of recognizable songs, which IS typical. This never happened last night. I'd like to take the time this morning to thank Verena Dillingham and the amazing staff at Haynes Furniture Co. on Va Beach Blvd. for having me into their beautiful store, and embracing local, ORIGINAL song makers- a community driven support system that seems to be dying in this town- as seen most recently by the closing of one of our most devoted supporters of original music- Geared Up Rock Bar- a truly sad and frustrating red flag. I would also like to share my set list of old, new and really really old songs. God Bless you folks and all of my friends and family who came out to support me. Hope to see you again soon- I'll be back at Haynes on May 4th @ noon! Support original music. Rock on with your bad self. Let's turn this ship around folks... we can do it. We are the chosen. Let's not waste any time. -Dave

LIGHTHOUSE

If you have not yet stumbled upon one of the gems of the Virginia Beach Oceanfront- The Lighthouse on 12th St. - let me be the first to tell you about it. I have enjoyed two months tenure here at this laid back little surf shack on the beach, and last night we broke into the stratosphere! People were grooving, everyone was singing and having a blast!!! Being a beachside patio spot, of course I'm laying down mostly covers, but if you didn't know, I play my covers in a Grateful Dead fashion. They did 'em their way, and so do I. However... places like the Lighthouse are supportive in staff and clientel and they give me the freedom to do my own thing, too. WHAT AN AWESOME PLACE!!!

WOODY'S

Had an amazing night this past Friday playing at Woody McGee's in Virginia Beach. This is turning into one of my new favorite places to jam. Special guests Duchess rocked the house, and I got to play all originals for the first time in a looooong time. It was refreshing and when the night came to a close, I was excited to rock out some blues, followed by a Doors set with my friend, writer Clint Purdin. Here's the setlist:

KENNY

Last night was a total blast - Rick, our manager, flew his high school best friend in from LA to come to our gig last night at the 11th st Taphouse at the beach. Kenny is a seasoned career drummer and has been for some time out on the west coast, and last night he jammed out some Otis Redding, HOuse of the Rising Sun and Leadbelly's The Midnight Special with us at the end of the night as Rick proudly looked on with a smile on his face that I will never forget. Rick and Kenny were in a rock outfit called Wild Vibrations back in the 70s and TONIGHT at Calypso Bar & Grill on 11th & Atlantic- They REUNITE!!!!! It's gonna be stellar- don't miss it. 9pm !! PEace!!! :)

ABBEY ROAD

Hey folks- playing an all original set tonight at Abbey Road in Virginia Beach. I'm pumped about this show- Playing at Abbey Road for the first time- strange that it took me so long to get in there. The story is that my friend Dave Tardy (Sees the Day) comes breezing in from New York City, makes one phone call and BAM - I'm set to play at one of the hottest spots in town. Opening for touring act Allegheny St. - check them out here on rvrbnation!!! See you tonight at the show! starts at 9 pm

CALYPSO

Hey everybody! Just booked a last minute show tonight at Calypso on 11th and Atlantic down at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. If you haven't been down to the beach in awhile, then let me tell ya- it's paradise! no crowds, no parking hassles, no cops... well.. not as many cops. Less idiots in general. Calypso has the finest drink & app specials in town including $2 Red Stripe beers all night long, $3 Fireballs and of course tonight is the weekly Cornhole Tournament, so all the locals will be out partying the night away with yours truly- Dave J & Michael Cole, also known as Dave & The Dark Matter, and a big board with a hole in it that you throw beanbags at. Does it get much better? No. Calypso. Where the summer NEVER STOPS.
