I know it’s been a while since my last blog. I’ve been on the DL for a couple weeks, nursing a bad (abscessed) tooth and the aftermath of having said tooth yanked out of my face….you’re welcome for that visual, by the way! Anyway, the pain is much diminished and I’m finally catching up on REM sleep. Max is happy, as he’s finally getting quality walks again! We’ve been “baching” it the last week since Sandy’s away on business. And while Max is a top-notch companion, he makes a lousy nurse! Fortunately, I didn’t have to cancel any shows while I dealt with the tooth problems. I was on the road quite a bit, including shows in the Panhandle, the east coast, and Key West. I really could have used the loan of Bubba’s plane…… Got a bunch of great events coming up. This week I’ll be back in Cayo Hueso for Meet Me In The Keys, Howie Livingston’s fun fest supporting KOA Care Camp. On June 14th I’ll be at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon from 1-4 pm; then the event kicks off in earnest with a Meet & Greet at the Doubletree Grand key West Resort at 6:00 pm. On Friday, June 15th, we’ll be throwing a Pool Party at the Doubletree from 11:30 am-5:00 pm, with music all afternoon. The party continues on Saturday and Sunday, but alas without me…. I’ll be heading to Hernando Beach and Weeki Watchi Springs for the Nature Coast PHC’s Pandemonium! They have a fantastic music lineup all weekend and I’ll be playing at R Beach restaurant on Sunday, June 17th, from 11 am-2 pm. The following week I have a few shows, at nervous Nellie’s on Ft Myers Beach Monday, June 18th, from 6-10 pm; and at Bubba’s Roadhouse in Cape Coral on Wednesday, June 20th. The 21st I’m back in the studio at Deltona Records working on the new album, and June 22-23 I’ll be in Washington, DC to attend my daughter’s college graduation! Back to Florida for a Sunday show at the Nav-A-Gator Grill in Lake Suzy from 2-5 pm. Then another studio session on the 25th and back to Nervous Nellie’s on the 26th, again from 6-10 pm. June 29-July 1 The party of the summer is happening in Cape Coral, at Tarpon Point Marina, with the 3rd annual Red, White & Tunes! I’ll be opening the event on Friday afternoon, but it’s going to be a VERY SPECIAL show, as I’ll be joined by Michael “Crawdaddy” Crawley and Brad Brewer! Miss this, and you might as well just pack it in for the summer; it’s over! Go to www.redwhiteandtunes.com for details and registration. Well, that’s all the shows for the rest of June! Time to go clear some more brush from the side of the house. And Max is looking like he’s ready for another walk!
Peace, Love and Trop Rock!
Last Saturday evening I had the very wonderful honor of singing the National Anthem at Germain Arena, prior to the Florida Everblades hockey game. What an experience! I hope that I did a serviceable job on the song. Just yesterday, I launched a brand-new project, a micro-funding campaign on IndieGoGo.com for the new CD. There are multiple levels of contributions, each with tis own special perks. If you'd like to help get the new CD done, stop by http://www.indiegogo.com/Coastal-Cowboy-album-project and choose your perk!
This weekend is filled with shows, ioncluding a couple new venues for me. On Friday, March 30th, I'm at the Portside Tavern in Port Charlotte, Fl from 9pm-1am. On Sunday, April 1st, I'm at Gatorz in North Ft Myers, Fl from 1-5 pm.
Also this weekend, I'm at Pincher's Crab Shack in Naples on Thursday, March 29th from 6-9 pm; and on March 31st (Saturday) I'm at Lucarelli's Restaurant in Naples from 7pm until they're done partying!
Ok, enough of that self-promotion stuff......the hockey game was AWESOME!! And the Everblades won!
Just got back from Orange Beach, Alabama and the Stars Fell On Alabama event! What a great weekend! On the way home we stopped at a dear friend's place in Seminole on Sunday night, then Sandy headed to her Tampa branch for an audit while I went to Deltona for some studio time. Jimi Pappas and I laid down the drum and scratch tracks for 7 more songs for the new CD. We still have a couple more to do, and Frank Starchak, producer extraordinaire, will be lining everything up. In April, I'll be doing the acoustic guitars and vocals. A few layers after that and we'll be ready to roll! We're looking at a release date sometime in September, as long as my road time doesn't interfere too much.
Gotta say, I can't wait to get back to the Panhandle. It's so much fun playing up there!
I'm getting ready to put my CD project on IndieGoGo and open it up to public financing. I'll be putting the word out so you can check it out and, if so inclined, you can help get the project done! Meantime, go check out indiegogog.com and peruse all the projects available.
Well, I hear a beach and a sunset calling out to me. Catch y'all soon!
Hola, Krewe! Just got back from an AWESOME weekend of music and friends in Tampa, at Music On The Bay! I gotta say, the Tampa Bay PHC and the other clubs that helped out, knocked this inaugural event OUT OF THE PARK!! Tomorrow (March 6th) I head to Key West for a show at the Rum Barrel.....then it's right back home for shows Thursday (Pincher's Crab Shack), Friday (Lucarelli's), and Saturday (Bubba's Roadhouse)....after that, I have a couple days to write before I head to Orange Beach, Alabama for the Stars Fell On Alabama music festival! The 19th I'll be back in the studio with Jimi Pappas to lay down the foundation tracks for the rest of the new CD....we're taking this one slowlty and are looking at a release date sometime in the Fall.
Next time, I'll have the rest of the March schedule and some news about a few projects in the works!
Hope to see you at a show soon! In the meantime, stay tropicalized and be good to one another!
Whew! Finally starting to see the floor of the new house! About halfway done with boxes (and boxes and boxes....) of "stuff" and most of the furniture is where it's going to sit for a while. Been on the road a lot the past few weeks, which has left Sandy having to carry much of the load during the move. Once this is all done, I need to take her someplace nice where neither of us is "on duty." It's hard for me, because I love what I do so much that it's difficult to put it aside for even a day! I've never had that problem with any other job. Today was spent running errands and getting things for the house, so this evening we went out with friends for drinks and dinner and conversation. What a relaxing time it was! Tomorrow, we plan on meeting "the gang" for a movie, probably going to see "The Hangover 2" before I head to Ocala for Sunday's gig. I don't know what I did to deserve this life, but I sure am grateful for it! Hey, one of my songs (Rita's Going Wild) was voted the #22 all-time greatest Trop Rock song on Beachfront Radio last week! Thanks to everyone who voted; it's nice to think that my silly songs can add a smile or two to your day! Okay, I don't want this to drag, so I'm gonna end this initial blog here. I'd appreciate any feedback you have on it, positive or negative. Peace, John
