The new system of dividing your band into its individual players with invites from Reverbnation to create your own home page! Ugh! As (now) a solo instrumentalist, no fuss for me. I would like Reverb to revert to its original system where the band remains one, and mentioned under Band members united, as against Band Members diversified and selfish! There is enough of that in the music industry methinks! A teacher all the way!
My first break will not come through Yes FM Home Grown, because you need a fan club of local voters who send in their daily votes via Dialog, another local phone. So, :) TABA which is like an African tribal band playing Beethoven in Africa & not understood by its own people who play foreign artists, will continue to depend on the overseas fans and unknown listeners! Thank God for you and them. Breaking into the Sri Lankan music scene means shows or gigs, and head counts and agents of which TABA has none as a solo instrumentalist. One hopes therefore for a genuine agent overseas who recognizes good music and is willing to accept a challenge . I hope I find one!
And it is not about self! http://t.co/n5HvQrZ7BZ Did research via a legal friend who is a fan and God Bless Her!. These are the problem areas. 1) DJ's feature as "Artists" and play copied/ mixed material which isn't checked for its originality. 2) Some "artists" feature the music of others and claim it as their own. Example Sting and The Eagles sung by singers in a foreign language, 3) Some "Artists" feature themselves several times over under different pseudonyms Therefore suggested to Reverbnation, using my old programming skills, to introduce a $1 verification system with credit cards as the verifier. 4) Some "Artists" appropriate the "Genre" of other artists though they are not in that Genre. Example, they claim they play Hip Hop/reggae when they actually play Techno or trance because the numbers are less. 5) Some fans feature themselves as "Artists" and share the music of other stars who are not known on Reverbnation, example, a fake "artist" plays the music of the artist of the "www edge theme", features his photograph but says that he is from our country. The original artist is likely dead, but ranks 1 thus depriving a genuine musician of this rightful place. 6) Reverbnation has a policy "original music", Check your competitors, are they genuine? Easy find, check song or line on Youtube. My fan did! :). Good luck! I will protect your music if I can!
A solo instrumentalist has hardly any chance of being in a show or a gig because people like bands! The singers are backed by bands, and musicians. The solo musician is dependent therefore upon a loyal fan club and musicians who are courageous enough to share the music of a solo without fear of losing its own fan club to the solo musician, however, failing to consider that no income is lost on the sharing, maybe just a place on the rung of popularity. Just a number ultimately! A show and a live performance will always get precedence! Country and locality play a big part in popularity, i.e. no foreign artists can travel, say, to Chicago to enter a competition for "those based in Chicago" or near say "Middle Hampton"which is seeking a performer for their night club. And visa requirements, embassies etc play a big part on whether you perform internationally or not. My music is for "Dance and Entertainment", no shows or gigs, no cash incomes, no night clubs, and very unfortunate, not even recognized in my country, because I play western Music. Reverbnation has to be blessed! It is multi-cultural. But, even on Reverbnation, you need to have funds to reach the masses, therefore a poor musician even in his own but known country, will never get heard.
I therefore created a page using www.wix.com titled www.tabafordancemusic.com which has a YOU subset, which tells you where you can share your music.
Face book, blocks spams, and causes abuse reports on any page which is a likely commercial venture for them in advertising if you curtail or cease ads with them. Low numbers means not advertised but could be "Pal to Pal" i.e. you are excluded if you do not fit a category. Also makes pages which are community but are "Country Selective" therefore marked as spam etc if even clicked with "Like". Radio pages are selective to their own country/community, therefore if foreign, no access available. Thank the good Lord for Reverbnation.. it is all about new musicians no matter who they are or where they come from :) Only problem, with the latter, very slow on refunds :)
Attempted to post more songs from artists on FB and was banned cos some musicians reported them as spam. Tut tut! I notice that some artists really want to be solo but not solo instrumentalists. :) Oh well! Will get there in helping others! Win some lose some, but its just 15 days. I hope the spam reporters continue to do so within the next 15 days. They will show themselves up! :)
https://www.facebook.com/TABA.your.DJ.for.Dance I am so busy liking everyone else's music and promoting you on the various websites, I forget myself often :) My swan song! :) Much obliged. Every single one of you has been featured on a fb page under the selected categories, i.e. Country, Guitar, Rock you like a Hurricane, Electronika, Then I feature you on Music lovers, and on radio Ceylon to introduce our locals to new artists. Abhor the 60's and 70's and Retro which is played in every nightclub in Sri Lanka and on the radio. Instrumentalists Unite, get the new artists instrumentals which is my page for the backup and support to singers, not recognised yet for their own skills. The artists who have instrumentals among their other songs are also featured here. https://www.facebook.com/instrumentalists.unite
My radio page features the music which is not categorised and the hip hop, indie, alternative and reggae artists are featured here, and I like their pages from the radio page! https://www.facebook.com/pages/TABA-likes-your-music-Your-radio/130183340452004
I do apologize to those who cannot be featured because the language in the songs is a bit too "unconventional" to be shared amongst 6000 students who I teach free and they get a dose of the music every other day of any one of you :)
I am rather a low profile person, a background worker, been that to the family and now here, the reverb family. May bow out gracefully cos cannot afford the costs and waiting for Reverb refunds is like a grave sentence with a lot of "refund policies" displayed which do not apply to discount coupons!
Introducing your music to the public, at least 20,000 fans on their relevant genres, (which I know nothing about.. ha ha!) but love your music and need a complete piece to promote the music. Clips and snippets won't do. Regret unable to also feature songs with "Modern language".. a conservative audience and kids, the reason but music lovers!
Thank you from the bottom of my Heart for your Friendship. Love and Hugs! Online friends are people we may never meet .... We see pictures, we may see cams ... It isn't the same .... We grow close ... We care and share and show love .... One day we may not hear from one another ....All we see is a name on messenger but the person we don't see anymore ..... All I ask is you remember me in the good times we had ..... Keep me close to your heart .... Friends forever ...with love, ..... Thanks for always being my friend ... TABA
The following link is my radio page where I will be featuring Reverbnation artists whose music I like so that I can introduce music that does not have a page on face book. For the artists who fit a category of a group on face book. I will be posting their music there. Example, Country, Blues, Hard Rock, etc. Do not wish to badger the listeners, so it will be one a day on each site :) https://www.facebook.com/TABA.is.your.radio.DJ
