Review of Laura Crisci's new full length CD release!

Several years back multi-talented Laura Crisci caused quite a stir when she was in a band with an all-star lineup that included Bruce Wacker, Tommy Labella, Danny Federici (of Bruce Springsteen's E-Street Band), Tico Tores (of Bon Jovi) and Bob Burger. And she was in a band called Live Bait with Vini Lopez (yes also of Bruce!) and Bob Alfano, close to the time that I was doing the Disco Rejects with those two great talents. Both bands featured her songwriting as well as her solid performing talents. After that she moved to Nashville, settling down for a while to raise a family. She's been back here in the Asbury Park area for a while and she's ready to rock again. I was able to get an advance copy of her first full length CD a few weeks back, called "All is Well" On it you'll hear several styles of music, from the sea-shanty like "Eternity" to the love songs "Twice Blessed" and "I would Be Yours", to the rousing rockers "Catch Me If You Can" and "Baby You Saved Me" and the dreamy "Winter Song" and "Broken Ferris Wheel". The latter two songs, both of which deal with keeping ones feet firmly planted on the ground, are two of the albums highlights. In fact my favorite is "Winter Song": "I can't Fly Away.." while the sounds of carnival barkers weave in and out, suggesting risking temptation to do so anyway. The highly polished production contins enough solid rockers to suggest the all-American sound of John Mellencamp and Sheryl Crow, but enough irony, grittiness and passion to suggest Dylan of his Blood On The Trackers era, or even Tom Waits. Flutes and accordians compete with the fierce thunder of her rhythm section to round out a sound that propels these simple, catchy but passion-laden tunes. This is sure to cause a stir when it is released, not just because of her solid reputation, but because once you hear you JUST CAN'T TURN THE DARN THING OFF! This is surely going to be considered one of the top releases of 2009, not just locally but anywhere. The CD will be released officially on Sunday December 6 at McCloones Supper Club in Asbury Park - see you there! www.MySpace.com/LauraCrisci www.Facebook.com/LauraCrisci1 www.LauraCrisci.com
