Jazz Vocalist Gabbie McGee to Sing National Anthem at The Belk Bowl

ATLANTA, Ga Friday, November 21, 2014 11:27am - This summer Belk, the famous Southern department store, sponsored a Southern Musician Showcase. The Showcase promotes Southern musicians and offered the winner of each category cash prizes, a performance wardrobe and an opportunity to perform at a Belk sponsored events throughout the year. The Southern Musician Showcase was open to solo artists and bands in the Americana, Pop Country, Jazz, Blues and Bluegrass genres. Jazz vocalist, Gabbie McGee was chosen as a winner from more than 2,000 submissions. After finding out that she was a winner, Gabbie expressed, "I'm thrilled to have this opportunity! It's an honor to continue my platform to preserve the legacy of Jazz". With two successful independent albums under her belt (Certified Soul, 2005 & Mississippi's Daughter, 2010), the BMI Independent Songwriter’s recognition for her song "Mississippi's Daughter", and a wealth of praise and career kudos from Jazz heroines Dianne Reeves and fellow Mississippian Cassandra Wilson-- Gabbie McGee is earning her place among this generation's young jazz elite. Gabbie McGee was the only finalist representing the city of Atlanta. "I've been singing all my life and I consider myself the ultimate Southern girl. So for Belk to host a contest that celebrates the South and music...this is a dream come true". As a Modern Southern Music Showcase winner, Gabbie will end 2014 on a high note with a national anthem performance at The Belk Bowl on Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at 6:30 pm. The Belk Bowl is an annual college football bowl game played at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game currently features a matchup between the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The first college bowl game to call the Carolinas home, the Belk Bowl has averaged nearly 60,000 fans each year, with three sellouts. In addition, the 2011 game was viewed by more than 15 million people. In 2003, it was named one of the five best start-ups in sports over the past five years by the Sports Business Journal, behind only the NFL Houston Texans and ESPN The Magazine.
