SPANSPEK MUSIC AND ARTS FESTIVAL(BLOG)

Spanspek Blog #41: Bruja Elektra Good evening everyone! I hope you enjoyed your weekend. Mine went very well, especially if you rate good times by how many people woke up with hangovers the following day! I've said it once and I'll say it again, you Sunday Morning Knitting Club bitches be crazy!

Anywho, today's Artist Profile is about Spanspek's first International Band! These were kind enough to give our small festival a shot, and we're glad to have them! They are none other than Mexico's own Zinema:

Here's their bio, as written on their MySpace page:

Zinema is an alternative/"roc en espanol" band originating from Mexicali, in the state of Baja California, Mexico. Originally called Sacados del Sueno the band decided to change their name to Zinema, as their practice space at the time was a closed down movie theater.

After a few years the group split and remade itself, making a new home for themselves in Coachella, CA.

Zinema has performed in numerous venues throughout Mexico and California, as has participated in many music festivals.

The band has released two albums since 2005, including their most recent release "Bruja Elektra".

Short and sweet, although they did neglect to mention that their music harkens back to the Golden Age of Roc En Espanol. I'm not talking about that crazy Pepe Aguilar/Sex Pistols collaboration either. I'm talking about a sound in kinship with bands like Mana, Caifanes, and Cafe Tacvba, but with a harder edge those bands lacked. Think Morrissey if he was born in Mexico City and liked to get down instead of mope. This is a band not to be missed!

For more information on these fine folks, check out the following links: www.myspace.com/zinema1 and www.twitter.com/zinema. And for a more in depth experience check out their performance of "Tijuana Love". These guys put on a pretty good show:
