AVAILABLE NOW - Marc Plainguet - When Gravity Fails. An EP of music written for a possible soundtrack to a film based on George Alec Effinger's classic Hugo Award nominated cyberpunk novel. In the early 2000s I was asked by my musical collaborator, Mitch Coughlin, to join him in writing music on spec for a film adaption. The project was being developed by filmmakers involved in effects work for The Matrix among many other films. George Alec Effinger had sold them the film rights and was writing the script himself. An artist known for artwork done for Bjork was involved with the production design. All of this was part of the package presented to financiers to get the film made. Since then Effinger has passed away and the film rights lapsed into other hands.
The main track titled "The Budayeen" is meant to invoke the Middle-Eastern city of the future in which Marîd Audran lives as he makes his way through the underworld in search of a serial killer. The two variations of "Yasmin" are a love theme for Marîd's transgender girlfriend.
As a fan of film soundtracks it was an exciting opportunity. I read the book and recorded these tracks as my contribution. I am happy to give these a final mix and make them available.
